BMS Intake Melted?

Has anyone heard of a BMS intake melting?

I bought one off of a member here, and noticed that the opening that attaches to the cone wasn't perfectly oval, but didn't think twice about it.

After having tons of issues, I happened to notice a picture of it online, and realized that mine was deformed as hell. Instead of an oval, mine looked more like a banana, and wasn't even close to sealing properly.

I put the stock intake back in, and bam, no more issues. Doesn't die at cold start anymore and boost is fine.

Yeah either that or an Injen, as it's not plastic. If you get one used, make sure to get plenty of pictures! This guy played me.

If I recall correctly, if the previous owner had a strut brace where it was over the bms, it could cause some melting.

That sounds like a plausible explanation.

I have the DCI on my car, running 19-20 psi boost in Las Vegas Desert weather.
No problems at all ...
I also have never heard of the DCI melting on its own.

The DCI won't melt but their N55 intake uses a plastic intake pipe. If it's not properly braced and rests on any of the aluminum on the car, it could potentially melt.

Yeah it's the N55 intake. Unfortunately, it was shipped to me that way.

That is terrible. Will he refund you and pay for you to ship it back?

I didn't even bother asking. It's been a few months; can't believe that I didn't realize it initially.

It was pretty cheap as a downpipe + intake combo. I have to say though - the downpipe was flawless.

Hahaha yeah man - lesson learned. For the price I paid, it's not that big a deal. More of an inconvenience, as now I have to get another intake.

BMS warranties them. Just ship them the tube and they can send you another one.

BMS has their own share of problems to deal with right now- don't count on it.

Huh? What does that have to do with anything? Just email a photo of the issue to Jason @ BMS and if you ask nicely I bet they will swap the tube out for you even if bought used.

Alright, so here's the update:

Mike was correct! I emailed Jon at BMS regarding my intake, and explained exactly what happened. He promptly responded, asking for some pictures.

So, I sent some pictures over and awaited his response. That same night, he emailed me back, stating that they would immediately replace the intake at no charge.

Today, I received two emails from Jason. The first contained the tracking number and the second, and explanation. I must say, I'm truly impressed that the engineer of the intake (Jason) felt the need to contact me and explain what likely happened.

Needless to say, I give BMS an A-fucking-Plus (excuse my language). Everyone there is a dream to work with! Thanks guys!

Edit: corrected a name =-]
