Hey whats up man. I was actually just on the phone with Fluidampr about getting one of these made for the 335 (N54). I run their offerings on my other shop car. And you guy have nothing to worry about when it comes to quality products from them. Been using their products for years.

Anyway, he told me about this thread and I figured I come in here and see if I can help. We may be able to kill two birds with one stone here.

Does anyone here have good clear photos of the N57/M57 crank pullies? Trying to see similarities if any.

I'll post up some of the N54 crank pulley also.

Sorry to jump in the thread like this. but it may be possible we could all help each other get this done.

Seems like the n54 has a "crank pulley". They don't directly call it a harmonic pulley but it does of course reduce vibration. From the looks and price of this oem pulley the difference is that the diesel version has much more dampening, not sure about size comparison.

If I had to take an educated guess, I'd say that based on how diesels work, the engine creates much greater vibrations compared to an equivalent gas engine, hence the beefer crank/damper pulley.

About the Lisle belt tool...given the way the AC belt squeals on the 335D I thought everybody had one of these Lisle tools.

It works well, and was cheap off of the internet. After the second time of replacing the squealing belt I finally replaced the AC belt with a Conti belt of the appropriate size. Great info from a diff post on this forum seems to have cured the squeal problem on my D.

My two cents is if you are going to the trouble of replacing the damper replace the AC belt with a Conti belt of the right size.

Oh yeah man no doubt they are great! I just got off the phone with them; we are on the list for design & manufacturing. No telling how long as of yet but they are on it and interested in helping our community. I will update this thread down the road when there is more ETA information...

FYI a 12pt 1 1/4" socket fits over the 4 bolts perfectly. a 6pt will work depending on how the bolts are aligned, the 12pt gives you some wiggle room.

Thats cool. It definitely helps when you want to just turn the crank...doesnt help to stop the crank from turning while you are trying to take the bolts off.

Just a bump. Seems I have a few messages in my inbox interested in the fluidampr... X5 side with some Interesting comparisons between stock and possible fluidampr replacement. I will post back in a couple weeks when I hear more, thanks for the support!

Start by getting the dealer to check for any software updates. You can increase reliability with the alphabet deletes and get more of the car's true potential.

+1 on the impact gun. If you don't have access to an impact gun, you might try using 2 ratchets that oppose each other. The last bolt will be tricky. Just leave a bolt opposite of the last one that's already been loosened.
