Low end torque is definitely a nice thing to have. Take my 335d with the JBD at the other end of the extreme. Not much HP, but still runs 4.6 sec 0-60, and 13.1 in the qtr mile. (will be in the 12's soon). Yesterday a ISF tried to take me coming out of the turn to the onramp. He jumped on it, and my torque got me about a half car ahead of him fairly quickly. His V8 was bellowing, my 335d didn't even sound like it was trying. Around town, the 335d can out launch many higher HP cars. Don't know what my torque is right now, but I assume its somewhere around 500 crank now. Stock is 425lbs at 1750rpm. Torque gets you the effortless, push you back in the seat acceleration in your everyday driving. So you get to experience that in a greater percentage of your overall driving.

That's because there were MANY more E36 325is cars produced. In fact, I think every 325 was an "is" so the badge got meaningless for a while.

2 more years and I'll put historic plates on my E30 1989 325is. This car is a proven collector's item. I have seen the car through it's complete depreciation cycle and it has been INCREASING in value for the last 5-10 years. The last one on eBay in great shape went for $8700. This is a 25-50% bump over a "regular" 1989 325i and even more than the higher volume cabriolet.

Back to the 335is, it really depends on how many 335is cars BMW intends to make. I suspect with the phase out of the N54, we may not see too many. Time will tell. I hope I can keep mine long enough to put historic plates on it. Of course, by then, I'll need historic plates too!
