Auto dim & dip mirrors = auto folding?

Hi,

I'm looking at retrofitting auto folding wing mirrors to my E92.

Looking at realoem.... it says that M Sport / High Gloss shadow line (which I have), has the auto fold option?

My mirrors only auto dim & dip tho... so is it possible that they will auto fold as well - if a buy a switch with the fold button?

See here.... special option SA 430 (dim & dip) contains SA 313 (auto fold)?

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...94&hg=51&fg=07

Any ideas?

Take the window trim off and if there are 3 wires, then yes you can retrofit folding mirrors.

If there's 3 wires, will it mean that my current mirror will auto fold?

I've taken off the mirror cover & there is no motor for the auto fold! I just need to work out how to take off the window trim without breaking it!

I have memory seats, so what I've read online the wiring for the retrofit should be there!?

I thought you only needed the wiring to be present underneath the current window panel.

You then buy a new panel with the fold button and fit the mirrors.

I took my window button panel which revealed the wiring and the extra wires to do this were present. I also have mirror dip and memory seats.

If you have 3 wires and memory seats, you are good to go.
You need to buy motorised mirrors and new switch and retrofit both.
Its shame that the thread which explained all about this is gone.
You can follow what the other chap said just to reconfirm.

I think you are showing passenger side mirror. (Sorry on iphone and photos are not clear).
Here is what I posted somewhere else;
Ok, few facts:
1- Electric mirrors should have 3 wires.
2- If the window switch wiring loom has Grey and Blue (LIN BUS connection) wire and driver side mirror wiring loom has Grey and Blue wire, then you can retrofit it with just coding.
Above facts are 99% positive.

It is very easy to take the window switch out to check.

Hi,

I've just looked... the drivers side has 3 wires going to the mirror - blue/brown, blue/white & another blueish wire:

I can't see a grey/blue wire.....
]

What do you reckon..... possible with this wiring?

I'm lost TBH. May be somebody else can help.
I'm still convinced that you can retrofit them, because you have 3 wires and memory seats.

Apart from the switch, you will need a set of mirrors with motors inside. You can't simply just put a switch on and expext folding mirrors. I have the same as yours, msport, witt auto dim, wipers and memory seats.
The motor is not inside the mirror already.
You will need buy a set of new mirrors or find out how to add a motor to your existing mirrors. I know some people have moved over the inside of the mirror to their original mirrors housing.

Well, we'll soon find out if a retrofit is possible!

I managed to source the mirrors & switch for a total of £240! Not bad, when they are from a 2010 m sport.

Fingers crossed my wiring is suitable! I hope the auto dip & dim still work on the new mirrors? I would have thought they would be part of the same option package?

I have auto dim interior mirror, memory seats, folding mirrors, the passenger mirror dips when I select reverse. Unfortunately the external mirrors do not dim on mine.

It's standard factory and has only the options ticked when ordering there has been no retro fits

I just double check, it's only my internal mirror that is auto dim as well!

I saw the picture of the auto mirrors & it only has an extra yellow wire going to the motor - the rest is the same!

A slight hijack, is a possible to swap for auto dimming glass?

My previous 335i had electric memory seat, folding electric heated mirror, dipped when reverse and auto dim same as the interior rear review mirror.

However my current car does all the same except for the auto dimming on the side mirror.

Does the car need to be coded to get the auto folding to work?

Just done a search & I do need the car coded! But at least I know the auto dip works!

Should you be able to move the mirrors easily when not installed? - I hope the motors are not fooked?
