Pyrometer (EGT) and Oil Press - how hard is it to implement
Hi guys,
I'm thinking about getting a set of gauges, with EGT and Oil Pressure. How hard is it to implement either one of these? I looked at M3 post, to install the Oil Pressure sender, the guy had to like take apart 1/2 of his engine (overexaggerating obviously), is this the same for the 335i? What about the EGT, how do I hook that up? Thanks. |

I'm thinking of doing EGT sensors on new downpipes when I get them...ideally you'd like to place them pre-turbo.
I think EGT sensors should be necessary for pushing higher boost levels...especially with stock turbos. |

egt would be very easy mounted pre turbo, the hardest part would be getting a drill bit in the tight space to make the hole for the sensor. I'm not sure how usefull it would be unless you are doing larger turbos, I know it is great to see how lean or rich fuel is flowing, but with the tunes that most are using it probley is over kill untill you are actualy manually manipulating those fuel curves.

I am willing to bet that the N54 already has an oil pressure sensor, all you need to do is find a way to tap into the CAN bus and fetch that data. Perhaps we can have a Procede feature soon.
Speaking of which, almost all modern engines have minimum of 2 oil pressure sensors, one for low pressure and one for high pressure. Its just a matter of obtaining the feed from the ECU.

You can still have an analog representation of a digital signal. If Procede includes this as a feature, you could toggle your oil gauge on the cluster between temperature mode and pressure mode.
That way you really don't have to disassemble anything or install anything...
