+1 Engine Oil warning...

Hey guys.. first post here...

I just got my 328xi touring three days ago, and today I got a low engine oil warning on my dashboard... It's showing +1 in the engine oil level check.. I was looking for dipstick to double check but found out there's no dipstick on my E91... I just drove for around 180km so far.. don't think it will burn out so quickly... It was almost full when my sales rep show me all the functions on my car... half full yesterday.. and today it's below minimum... anyway I can double check, or should I just bring it back to dealer if it keep showing +1??

BRING IT BACK! Dont play around with oil levels.

Agreed. Definitely bring it back and have them add oil. You don't want to cause harm to your engine. While you're there, it may be a good idea to purchase a bottle of BMW oil and keep it in the trunk. This way you can add it if it happens again in between your normal oil change intervals. I actually had this happen to me over the Thanksgiving weekend, and the closest BMW dealership was closed. Fortunately, mine back in the Boston area was open, and my SA (who is fantastic btw) advised me to add a bottle of Mobil 1 5w30 in the interim. I was very close to my scheduled oil change anyway ~500 miles when this happened, so I'll be back to 100% BMW labeled oil this Wednesday.

Something is obviously wrong. Take it back and have them check it thoroughly.

Thanks for you guys advice...

My sales rep already give me a bottle of engine oil... just in case it burn out faster during the break in period... but I didn't expect it to be this fast... 3 days... I used to drive the X5 and always have a couple bottle in the trunk!! I will bring it in and see what's wrong with the quick oil consumption....

don't see any leakage so far..

Just fill in a bottle and bring it to half full in the oil level check.. after driving 20kms and it's showing +1 at minimum level... gonna bring it in and see what happen....

off topic a bit.. It had been snowing heavily today.. I found that standard tires on my 328xiT perform much worse than my old X5 without X-Drive... does anyone found that, or just me?? I never need to put on snow tires on my X5 and I had been driving to ski trip weekly... but with the 328xi.. I think I need to put on snow tires before I go up the mountain....

I had the same thing happened to me few weeks ago. I took it back to the service dept & they changed the sensor. They changed the engine oil too.

I brought it in today... they said it's probably the sensor problem... so.. I have to bring it in again on Fri... (their schedule is fully booked).. hopefully nothing goes wrong between now and Friday.... got my car in four days and need to bring in for service..

These things happen. However, a regular dipstick would have been nice on the car. No worries, they'll take care of you.

Before you take it into the dealer. Do you park your car on a slope? The reason I ask is because I had this problem before. I park my car in my driveway which is sloped and one day I had a low oil indicator come on. After driving a while on level ground, I shut off the car, did some shopping and when I got back to the car the low oil indicator was off. Then I checked the oil level through the i-drive and it filled back up. Just another thing to checkout before adding any additional oil.

It was flat as I was checking it in my parking... I think it's the sensor problem too... it went all the way back to max line and OK today... still +1 at minimum this morning...

hopefully replacing the sensor will fix the problem.. can't wait until Fri...

Finally got it checked today... it's not even a faulty sensor... they said it's probably moist on the sensor that lead to malfunction sensor... once it dry up it's working properly....

This makes sense. When I got my warning the other day saying add 1 qt it was just after I pulled out of the car wash. The sensor must have been wet (plus frozen because it was -25 c).
