3 days ago I bought a 2009 335 m/sport coupe with 40k miles for $28500. I've been shopping a lot and know that was only a fair price, not a steal. When others say your too high, they mean your way to high. Soap, water and pictures won't sell a car that is priced wrong. Good luck.

You know I've pretty much had it with people thread crapping on other peoples for sale posts. What a car is worth to you is not the same as it is to somebody else. When people make blanket statements, like your car is priced way to high, they don't know all the facts, or why the car is priced the way it is. There a ton of factors that effect car price and what people are willing to pay. The fact that somebody just payed X$ for a car has absolutely no bearing on what some random car posted for sale should go for in your eyes. And your comments don't do anything except hurt the chances of somebody actually selling a car through a forum.

Here's an example.

Two cars. Same year, model options, color, millage.

One car has been really driven hard short distances, left out on the street, has a few scratches dings, maybe had a little body work done, had its front windshield replaced, It's a 4 owner, and has never been serviced, and only had one or two oil changes in its life. The previous owners used and abused it. But it cleans up nice, so its up for sale.

The second car is a two owner, shows a 93 score on auto-check, similar car are 81-88. The of first owner was a woman who drove it sparingly, kept it in a garage, and never failed to have it hand washed every two weeks, and waxed bi-monthly if it needed it or not. The second owner keeps it in a garage and its also garage kept where he drives to work. All the millage is highway and it is never abused. Its hand washed only, every other week, and has been maintained and babied as it was his dream car. Oh its also got some killer after market wheels, oh and another set for winter that go with the car.

Should these cars be priced the same? Which one would you want? A better question being that I know the answer to the first question, is how much more is the second car worth to you? 2k? More? Maybe your a car nut and really appreciate a well kept car that looks almost brand new after 4 years because it was kept by people who really love cars. If right now, you go to cars.com and search for a 2009 328 vert. You will see prices like these, I just did this. In the following example only three cars were CPO. And none of them were M-Sports. How is 32.5 way too high?

In the future I would appreciate it if people who see a car for sale and think in their expert opinion that it is priced too high, do what I do, say to yourself, I think that is priced too high, but if that guy can get what he thinks its worth good for him. And keep that thought to yourself. Your not buying it, your not interested in it, but you feel obligated to comment on how high priced it is, doing nothing but hurting the OPs effort to sell his car. That in my expert opinion is being a DB. Thanks for listening to this rant. I wish somebody who agreed with me would make a sticky and keep it at the top of the for sale section.

"Thanks for listening to this rant. I wish somebody who agreed with me would make a sticky and keep it at the top of the for sale section."

I am a professional buyer/appraiser, but it is true I am not in the auto field. In my experience it is difficult for a seller with an emotional investment in his product to impartially price it. If no emotion was involved it would be different. When you're going through this, any input you can get is helpful but as always look at the source. Free advice is often worth just that - nothing. My main advice is to write it down. Take other listings and especially actual sales prices when you can get them and write down the differences between the sold car and yours. There are always differences and you can't keep them all straight in your head. (I used to have a link to a thread showing what other guys had bought their cars for, but I've lost it. Was it on here?)

The old line about "whatever the buyer is willing to pay" only works up to a point. If your buyer needs to get a loan the banker is going to look up the price in the blue book and may shoot down your deal. So you have to find someone dumb enough to over-pay for your car and smart enough to have cash. That's a tough combo. Besides, with the internet, how likely are you to find someone that hasn't shopped everywhere and seen everything, especially the reallly involved guys that are on a forum? When all else fails keep the car on the market and try different prices. You'll get to the right price eventually.

Bump.

I have to agree with OP. It's his price. Some people do not want to go to a dealer or have had a bad experience and will buy a car privately for less than retail but more than private sale .

I knew someone at work trying to sell his 135i for a month. Apparently after listing it on autotrader they told him it was too low of a price an to raise it $3,000. He was only $1000 below what dealers were pricing. He sold it 2 days later. The only thing the buyer asked was why he thought his car was worth that price.

Garage List
Dude, selling a car on E90 post is a lost cause. People want to hijack ur thread and disenfranchise you as a seller by saying ur asking too
much. (Even if ur asking blue book OBO) Just put it on Craigslist. It'll sell.
As for Dr335is...his car was wrecked and that's why he couldn't get 40+ for his. He hijacked my thread too a few weeks ago. I just sold it on Craigslist after a week of it being listed. GLWS.

I've only had this since last June, I spent 6 months searching for the right combinations of color, options and millage. If your looking for used 328 vert this is the one you want.
What a beautiful car. It's a shame you are letting it go.

I'd have ordered that the TiAg or maybe SG with red had the dealer not had the SGM over red when I went to buy mine. I have to say though that I have no regrets about not having ordered a lighter grey color as I do really like the SGM.

I'm surprised your kids are squished in the back. I've had several six foot tall colleagues tell me how surprised they are that they can sit comfortably in the rear of my coupe. I guess -- admittedly I've never checked -- the dimensions differ in the 'vert from those in the coupe.

Best of luck with the sale. You may want to check the BMW website to see at what price dealers who are offering full period CPO coverage are selling similar cars. My sense is that you may end up having to trade it for your price seems to about what a BMW dealer would list as the initial price for your car and any of them will immediately take at least $2k off the list price with almost no fuss if the buyer is firm and legitimate.

Thanks guys. Yea adults can get their feet under the front seats and make it work, my 6 and 7 year olds feet dangle about three or four inches from the floor cause of the booster seats. So their feet just don't fit. I hate letting it go especially this time of year, but hearing them say ouch every other time they get in breaks my heart. I feel selfish about it keeping it, so on to bigger and better things.
I just need to find a 335d at a dealer near me and go make a deal. Ill give cl a shot and see what happens but in Pa I'm looking at 1200 on taxes saved trading it, so I would need at least that much over trade in to make it work.
