I have a 335i and am working with Harold..planning to do all the M3 suspension bits front and rear, M3 sways front and rear, rear subframe bushings, OS Giken LSD, and Swift/AST coilovers..Harold recommends the spring rates you are running 400/800, but i was thinking taking a step down to 350/700 only b/c I live in NY with crappy roads and the cars is gonna be primarly street driven.

Do you feel 400/800 to be a decent ride comfort wise..I dont mind a little stiffness but worried about how its gonna feel when hitting bumps/potholes?

Any feedback would be great..THX
I'm doing things piece by piece. I'd do the front setup for that 'just cuz' thing but i'm not a big track guy so most people say, why bother. I did most of this to get that float/ uneasy feel out of the car. Yours looks like a great build. The big question you should ask yourself is, 'what are you tryihng to get out of the car?'

I'm from Vancouver, BC, Canada and to be honest, our roads are PLAIN SHIT here too. With the 400/800 and Ohlins, people are shocked at the comfort actually. Most think it's like stock feel. My bro-in-law's 911 with bilsteins would give you a hernia in contrast. My sis has a mini cooper s with stock suspension and to be honest, i find that stiffer than mine.

Wow man thx for the feedback..400/800 it is..btw..the front piece r very worth while b/c u dial our about a 1.2 degree of negative camber w/o camber plates (not sure if u running camber plates or not) The M3 arms in the front r also aluminum w stiffer bushing than OEM..its not a very expensive mod n easy install/ I guarntee u will feel the car transformed and become very well balanced.

Most people that do the M3 suspension pieces on our cars usually do front and ignore rear b/c front u feel it sooooo much more in the front..its interesting u did the reverse..

Part # PKE9XM3ARMS ..its $405 maybe $200 labor.

Thanks man. The whole purpose of this was to get rid of the floaty feel and stabilize the rear end when accelerating. I'm ordering the front end pieces this week and it's going to be done next week.

I'll update the first post with my findings. It's worth the read.

Actually i have it sitting here but didn't get it intalled. I had to 'winterize' the car so i'm running my snow tires right now. I figured why bother with handling upgrades. Going to get this done after the winter. I'll update then.

i had the same problem on my 05 CTS-V that I put a supercharger on, got some BMR toe arms that were about 6x the thickness of the factory(think sway bar links, thats how thin the stockers were). and overnight my problems went away! I also noticed that the rear suspension was much less unsettles when driving over say freeway reflectors and rough terrain.

I notice you guys were running 400/800 spring rates. I also am going with the ASTs and was recommended to use the 400/800 spring.

Once difference is that I am an xi so my car weighs about 200lbs more and most of that is probably up front.

Do you think I should tweak my spring rates to be higher in the front or higher in the back to compensate for the additional weight in front??

I decided to go with the 336/672 springs instead of the 400/800. Should I maybe go with a 400/672 or would that give me too much oversteer.

Im still learning about spring rates so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

My speculation: it will depend in part on your rear sway. With a stiffer rear sway (15mm vs. 13) you can have a bit lower rear spring rates. xi won't have traction issues of open dif 335i. However Harold is recommending the 400/800 with M3 sways which have a thicker rear bar still at 20mm. Not much info on suspension tuning for xi. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Ya, Im just wondering if Harold is recommending the same thing for i guys and xis even though there are significant suspension differences. (different sway diameters and extra weight) Since the xi has the 15mm rear sway, should I possibly drop the spring rate even lower than the 672??? Or should I just increase the front spring rate since the xi has the same diameter front sway in comparison to the xi.

I plan on staying with the stock sways due to the installation hassle of installing sways on the xi.

I was on the fence and thinking to run a lil softer spring too (336/672), but then the more people i spoke with similar setups; 400/800 seemed to be optimum, (some were even running heavier rates than 400/800), especially w ASTs that can handle the spring rates. Also keep in mind you can't play around too much with independently lowering and raising spring rates in front and rear otherwise you will induce understeer.

I have an i but I would think since the xi is heavier and your keeping stock sways, it would make more sense to use the heavier spring rate not lighter.
