I'm from Vancouver, BC, Canada and to be honest, our roads are PLAIN SHIT here too. With the 400/800 and Ohlins, people are shocked at the comfort actually. Most think it's like stock feel. My bro-in-law's 911 with bilsteins would give you a hernia in contrast. My sis has a mini cooper s with stock suspension and to be honest, i find that stiffer than mine. |

i had the same problem on my 05 CTS-V that I put a supercharger on, got some BMR toe arms that were about 6x the thickness of the factory(think sway bar links, thats how thin the stockers were). and overnight my problems went away! I also noticed that the rear suspension was much less unsettles when driving over say freeway reflectors and rough terrain.

I notice you guys were running 400/800 spring rates. I also am going with the ASTs and was recommended to use the 400/800 spring.
Once difference is that I am an xi so my car weighs about 200lbs more and most of that is probably up front. Do you think I should tweak my spring rates to be higher in the front or higher in the back to compensate for the additional weight in front?? I decided to go with the 336/672 springs instead of the 400/800. Should I maybe go with a 400/672 or would that give me too much oversteer. Im still learning about spring rates so any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

My speculation: it will depend in part on your rear sway. With a stiffer rear sway (15mm vs. 13) you can have a bit lower rear spring rates. xi won't have traction issues of open dif 335i. However Harold is recommending the 400/800 with M3 sways which have a thicker rear bar still at 20mm. Not much info on suspension tuning for xi. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Ya, Im just wondering if Harold is recommending the same thing for i guys and xis even though there are significant suspension differences. (different sway diameters and extra weight) Since the xi has the 15mm rear sway, should I possibly drop the spring rate even lower than the 672??? Or should I just increase the front spring rate since the xi has the same diameter front sway in comparison to the xi.
I plan on staying with the stock sways due to the installation hassle of installing sways on the xi. |

I have an i but I would think since the xi is heavier and your keeping stock sways, it would make more sense to use the heavier spring rate not lighter. Last edited by tibra1; 01-07-2011 at 01:19 AM.. |
