Bidding on E. Bay?.
I am bidding on e bay for a spacesaver wheel and I am a bit puzzled, is there any way of knowing what the highest bid is at the moment without being the highest bidder?

No there is no way of knowing what the highest amount someone else has put as their highest bid.
Just put in what you are prepared to pay and see what happens |

If you go to increase bid it tells you how much you need to bid. This may not be the highest bid but it will give you an indication.

For example if someone has entered £100 as their maximun bid but the current auction price is £50, ebay will keep prompting you to increase your maximum bid by small increments until you pass £100.
If you don't bid higher than his £100 you will just push the auction price up to slightly more than your bid. You have no way of knowing what the other person has bid. Just set your limit, know the value of the item and don't get carried away. |

Place a bid off £10,000
Click on bids and you will be able to see the previous highest amount bid. Note the figure down. Next fill in a bid retraction form Found here When the bid has been cancelled, bid higher. That should work |

How pathetic is this? just had an e mail from ebay saying they are sorry my bid of £50 was unsuccessful and further saying the item was sold for £109. My bid was £128 and I am not surprised it went for more cash. they then go on to say keep trying as there are plenty more fish in the sea. They insult your intelligence.

If you put £128 in then you would have won, it would have outbid the £109. Unless the guy who won at £109 bid a maximum of £130, and then you would have been outbid again. There is no way if you entered £128 big you would have been outbid at £109. You sure you didn't put £50 in thinking you would go to £128 if needed?? If it is at £48 and you bid £128 it would have only bid £50 until the next bidder outbid you, and then you outbid him again ad infinitum. |

This is common if you have 0 (zero) feedback... Often in the add they will ask you to contact them if this is the case

Gizze, The bid showing before I took an interest was £120. I then bid four consecutive times, upping it at £2 per bid to take it to £128 and thats when I called it quits. Also I was not aware the seller had any say in the matter during the bidding process, so how could he cancel my bid ? You seem to be saying Gizzie, that bids can only go up in £2 increments? that sounds ridiculous.

No I'm not saying that, it depends on the item. Some items go up in £10 increments.
Have you got a copy of the email with your bid confirmation? Send the seller a copy and ask why it ended at £50? |

Go to the auction you lost and you will see a bit on the screen that says number of bids under the auction price.
The list will show all bids including retracted and removed bids. |

What are you on about.
Unless your low feedback put off the seller you should have won simply with a higher bid.
This is an idiotic discussion as the best thing is to decide your highest amount you are willing and bid it about 10 seconds before the end of the auction. That way noone has a chance to counter your bid and you get it for the cheapest you possibly could. If you bid miles before the end it means people counter and then you counter and it pushes the price up unneccessarily. |
