This will probably be my favorite non-M car BMW is offering. I love the fact that this car deleted the fog lights to make room for more cooling .. fog lights are for wimps :P

this would sort of the next baby M if it had a LSD. Either way the specs are impressive. Too bad it's not coming out in sedan form...

2011 E92 & E93: A Solid Win
All things considered, a solid win for BMW that is head and shoulders above the presently available options for the E92 & E93.
New performance and appearance options plus what appears to be the N54 HPFP fix is a big plus for the 335is, as is the N55 for the 335. If they were able to place a higher output inline 6 or turbo 4 for the 328, it could have been a home run. 2010? New mirrors only? FTL.

HOLD ON HERE. I LOVE the //M3 and spend most of my time anticipating mine getting here so I can turn in my e92 335i. But what on earth is the point of the 335is? BMW is just killing //M sales and I'm just confused as hell as to this offering.
Now the IS will have the Dual clutch like the //M, be damn near as fast and only give up some handling. Yes, that is why I am buying an //M, for that extra handling and the N/A engine, but since one of those is going by the waste-side, what one earth will be the difference now? I know an //M is an //M, but damn, things are getting so close now..... Cheers, e46e92

I think that this may hint at the possibility of some changes for the M in the future. If the 335 moves up even closer then they will have to raise the bar a bit in order to avoid overlap. It is a good point that they will have two different engines and the way they drive willbe different but I think they will probably try to seperate them a bit more and seems the only way to do that would be to make the M more M'ish. that way the M owners will retain that warm fuzzy they get from owning an M and the 335IS owners can get a whole new kind of fuzzy going.

There will be enough of a difference and at the same time even if it does steal sales from ///M cars. People must also realize that ///M is not contributing across the line in non-///M vehicles so they do not need to sell as many cars to stay profitable. Z4 active suspension-///M same as the 5 and 7, there are other things as well (besides M Sport kits).

Member dynos are at the wheels...factory estimate is at the crank...apples to oranges. Most people agree the factory estimated of 300 bhp is understated.

Then the 2012s may come out with little improvements or additional goodies, then the 2013s probably will, as it's the last MY before the big model change... then the 2014s will be the big model change with lots of new goodies, etc., etc.

Overboost doesnt give more HP? only tq...
I still dont think the 335is is anywhere close to bmw M3 performance. dont understand why people keep saying this. the 335is will probably dyno around 300WHP i would guess. it just seems like the bmw performance kit on the 335i with the bmw performance products also on it with a overboost feature. The M3 is still wider, wider body, more agressive looking for sure even with the 335is new features, has LSD, and still has more power. 335i with Jb3 is more a M3 killer than this will ever be. Now im wondering if this N54 will have even more tuning protection on it, and if Terry and Shiv can extract as much power as a regular N54. which im goign to guess yes. And its a shame bmw isnt putting the N54 in the E90 anymore! N55 is going to be a PITA to tune and make as much good power as the N54 has come to this day! |

Rule of thumb: automatic = 20% drivetrain loss, 15% for a stick.
I suspect that, while the n54 is under-rated, it's not that high. More like a real 310-315 at the crank.

Problem is with more power the lack of a LSD will hurt it more. 335s already have traction issues when tuned. It was wise on BMWs part not to include an optional diff, if they had then they would essentially gut the M3 and I'd trade mine in for one (if they offered a sedan). I'd like to see how tuning companies get around the new protection though.

322hp, like mentioned it probably make 300WHP, if that, if we go by bmw underrating this engine.
Not really excited over this, rather a N54 with a JB3 over this bmw stuff to get people to shell out more money. |

My bet is there will be an M3 facelift at the same time just as there was with the E46. This could very well mean more power, features etc for the "M"........
