Picked up a 2005 Subaru Forester XT, modding advice?

hey all,
actually my Dad picked it up to replace his Jeep that got crushed under a tree Sunday.

anyone have experience tuning these things?

If he does ANYTHING, I would think a nice exhaust would be in order or a downpipe if it honestly helps the engine breathe easier. he wants to keep it "until the wheels fall off" so anything that will help relieve stress will be a plus.

he is however still a hotrodder at heart so a little extra umph wont hurt either

If it's a turbo, the COBB AP will do great things to the boxer engine!

High flow panel filter too!

Downpipe, catback, upgraded intercooler of some sort (stock sti top mount maybe?), and tune (cobb ap?). Simple little things that can make the car a lot more fun to drive as well as give it more of that "oomph" you were talking about.

If you have not found the site already...http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/

Give this link a look...man the prices of parts for that platform have really fallen. Mind you this is for a WRX/Sti - so the FMIC may not fit http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1974262

As far as must do mods...prob a cobb AP, up pipe, DP, and a FMIC. The TMIC really gets heat soaked. I never ran the FMIC with a factory turbo so I'm uncertain what type of lag you will induce with the length of piping and larger IC core. On that note, grab a turbo and get it done at the time of UP/DP install (don't forget new gaskets).

FMIC?

Ignore that, just go with full exhaust route and Cobb AccessPort for the first round. When you need more power get your hands on some used STi parts. VF39, STi Intake Manifold, Injectors, STi Top Mount. These are all a direct swap, the AccessPort can be tuned for the VF39 turbo.

I have the red intake manifold at home, trying to get my hands on an XT too.

Come by our shop and talk to me. We've tuned many jillions of turbo Subarus. I know a lot about them.

Edit: Ellicott City is kind of far. If you can't come by, give a call next week.
