Done... but the trim was a real b!tch to get off.

Also the Romanian made part is not as well made as the German part it replaces. The back cover was out of tolerance on mine and squeaks when pushed.

Any annoying squeaks arise I will know where to look

This mod is awesome

Excuse the sweat on the seat and my ugly big toe.
1. Pry back the trim from steering wheel
2. Get fingers behind trim and pull and wiggle to loose. Don't pry to door since it makes the left side a real b!tch (this is what i did so learn from my mistake!)
3. Loosen trim until left side opens up and use putty knife to pry left side. Insert putty knife until you hit the metal stud.
4. Be very gentle with her. See where I damaged the wood trim with the putty knife!!! Small but I will always know it is there.
5. Trim removed
6. You can see the switch
7. Get a grip and pull out. Wiggle it a bit to loosen. Then pull straight out.
8. Slide grey plug lock to right. Remove out plug gently.

Here are some of the pics everyone can use:

More pics

9. Note the tabs holding the trim plate to the switch (bottom right of photo). Press the tabs down and then insert a plastic rod (Bic pen cap worked for me) to release the locking mechanism. Trust me here I spent 15min trying get these damn things to release without breaking them. Don't scratch the trim face.
10. Insert new switch and make sure it locks in place (reverse above procedure using Bic pen cap) or you will have squeaks. Re-insert plug and lock in place.
11. Test the new rear fogs!!!
12. Reverse de-installation procedure. Everything goes back together very easily.

Wipe up sweat and give her a good interior polish.

Pat self on back.
Go for test drive.
Return home and drink a beer to celebrate another great mod!

Thanks brianlay !!!!

it makes your car's rear more visible in the fog...saves you from a nasty rear-ender.

Bad luck for me, I had assumed my package had arrived Friday at the front desk downstairs (I live in a condo) and didn't bother to check until today. I found out that UPS rescheduled delivery as they could not ascertain my unit number (it wasn't on the shipping label). So gawd knows when I will receive the goodies

Now all you need is a foggy night.... and your switch. Sorry, bro.
Hopefully mine will be here tomorrow. Will add pics when it's in and on.

oh oh oh... let the foggy nites begin! 10 minutes tops to complete this diy. I used a butter knife to pry the trim off. inserted into the steering wheel side and then turned the knife sideways which elevated the trim. Pried slightly until the door side trim started to lift a bit, then inserted the butter knife on that side an pried up a bit. The light switch part came out easily. The trim went back into place with ease. Tested. True.
By the way, you can turn on the rear fogs without turning in the front. I'm gonna go out and blind some F*ckers tonite! Just kidding. I will use my rear foglights appropriately and safely... I promise.

By the way, when inserting the new switch into the trim, if you lift the rear end of the clip it clicks in place easily.

ok first attempt was not succesful (as per spydrz's attempt p.s. you're not alone )...I managed to pry/lift the steering wheel side easily but I can't get the door side to lift. I am using a plastic putty knife (which is already out of shape)...will try again during my next cigarette break (at work now)

JD, thanks for the great service. I got mine today, and it was an easy installation.

Ok I got mine installed earlier this evening.

The door side of the trim, remains a real b*tch to pry relative to the steering wheel side. I used a plastic and steel putty knife. I found out if you get the right side loose enough to wiggle, it helps the left side pry open.

I didn't remember reading about the grey clip on the wire connector so it took me a few minutes to figure it out. Don't pull the wire connector straight off, push the grey clip around and the connector will lift itself up and out of the socket. The black clips on the switch was a little tricky to snap on/off (broke one clip).

All, in all once the trim panel comes off, its pretty straight forward. Rear fogs look great and its a cheap euro mod worth having especially if you live in an area with the potential for foggy or heavy wintry conditions.
