Ford Explorer Sport vs. Dodge Durango R/T, opinions welcomed.

On my quest to find a sporty 3-row SUV I have been looking at these two. What do you think about the reliability between the two? HP numbers are similar, Ford is a little more refined but costs more. BTW, I cant swing the $65k a similarly equiped X5 would run me.

check out the Infiniti JX35, here in canada its similarly priced (base model) to the top of the line model explorer and durango. the advantage here is increased luxury as well as reliability.

But it's so ugly. It's the closest automotive equivalent to a fish on wheels.

I'd say its visually more appealing to the eye than an explorer or durango, but thats my perspective. The vehicle that its based on is quite ugly, and that would be the new Nissan Pathfinder.

Ford has been pretty awesome lately.. from fit and finish to the new powerplants they have under the hood... my good friend just bought a '13 Durango a few weeks ago. Its nice.. not my cup of tea though. .. I'd rather have the new explorer if I had to narrow down the two.

I've heard the CVT is a real downer and its a little low on power. Not very sporty.

The standard Explorer is a great crossover vehicle but is definitely out-matched by the Durango when it comes to power. Luckily, the Sport model solves this problem. The 3.5L Ecoboost has been proven in multiple applications now and should get you better fuel mileage than the Hemi. I have friends with both vehicles and both seem to be happy with their purchase, but I'd have to give the nod to the Ford.

What is this you speak of? Do you work at the Ford plant? And if so, hello employee discount.

BTW, I test drove the R/T. Big and heavy and an absolutely awesome Hemi growl. Roomy, I didnt get a chance to push it though to see how it handled.

I will go for the Ford. Inside you will find many Range Rover elements and technology (they owned it right?) including the 4x4 switch. They have increased their quality tremendously and their engines are pretty nice. The maintenance will not be a burden neither.
Infinity is fugly, even for free I will get rid of it very fast.

omg I can't f*cking believe this. The Explorer Sport comes standard with rear parking sensors! This is a deal breaker! Anyone who runs a Valentine One can understand this. My wifes Ody has the back up sensors and it makes my V1 alert constantly. dd1981 if I give you the VIN can you make sure it gets a parking sensor delete?

p.s. i'm actually serious about this, as sad as it is.

Dang DD1981. Great hookup for the OP. What is the X-plan discount for their SUV's and trucks? % under invoice, invoice, or a hair over?
