Back on thread - Glad I brought this up - just been onto the dealers,

"err yes sir it was a starting rate of 6.6% PA" , i.e. a flat rate.

So not APR as they infered. But the end rate is low, pretty good in the end. I had forgotten I'd deleted some options, so my quoted discount list price was wrong, its actually £37569 (still 12.7% off). So the APR will be more than 4.88%.

Anyone? - £37569 price / 2.5k deposit / £775pm / 3yrs / GMVF £12,177 - around 8% apr I reckon

The vehicle saving I got is a tangible figure, and the finance is very competitive at, but not cheap. Most online PCPs are around 10% APR at the mo.

Roll on March -

Semi off topic, but, I got a call from my local Honda dealer yesterday asking if I'm still interested in a CRV for my wife. He's offering a delivery miles top spec 'executive' car (leather, sat nav) for £18k - that's about £7k under list price. He said they'd had their best ever January (so far) selling 41 cars!!!!! Some good news out there. I said if he can give me £20k for my 330d (yeah right) he's got a deal. Still waiting for the call to say 'no thanks'.

Ha... I try not to think about the 3yrs of depreciation hell. Just what a nice car I can buy for the missus for 12K. 1 carefull owner etc etc...

NFS: My 330i 06 plate books at 11K now, down from 34 paid / 38 list. Less than 30%. But I can't get an offer of over 10.5K anyway.

DXB: Red / brown leather is one of the new 09MY colours. replaces terra, lemon etc etc. Its the first non black i've liked.

Book value (average condition trade in) for my 330i is currently £12k (56 plate / 45k miles).

For a 55 plate / 65k car it's £10k.

So in theory I'm looking at only £2k depreciation over the next 12 months. If the values recover, maybe even less.

Can't bring myself to sell based on those numbers, although I would love a 335i.

In March 08 when i bought my 330i after 2 years pcp (book was 1.8k above the GMFV), it was looking like losing 4-5k in its 3rd year, but the last 10 months have knocked it from 20k to 11k, it seem to be settling at -400pm at by November, but strangely glass's shows -850pm for 55 cars. These monthly drop figures are for November 08.

I'll get January Glass's guide off the father-in-law in February. See what horrors are lurking for 2009!

How you can buy such a beautiful car as the 330i, 3 yrs old for 10 grand is beyond me. In 1997 i paid 14 grand for a 4 year old Sapphire Cosworth 4x4. Which wasn't half the car the 330i is.

I had trade in offers circa £17k for my car when it was 18 months old - ie in March 08.

The £850 a month drop in Nov 08 makes sense though, that's when everything went into freefall.

You are right that anyone buying one for £10k now is getting a LOT of car.

No I wouldn't have got 20k for it, but it would have cost more than 21k to buy off a forecourt, which was my position coming to the end of the PCP, so I bought it for 19250. ouch.

So 10k a year drop for that it the same as i'll be facing with the 335i payments wise. If things pick up and the 335i is worth more than the GMFV I'll buy it at that price.

It just means overpaying in the mean time (hopefully) as you can't control the GMFV offered.

When I bought my car in 06 the dealers and online guys were doing 10% discounts. When you added that discount in most used cars under 1 year old were just as expensive as brand new.

I actually tried to buy an 06 car from a dealer in Stoke. Who would give no movement on price at all. In the end my new car was £1k cheaper. I think the dealers were artifically inflating the used values, plus the e90 was still newish then and there were less about.

Then in 07, the broker discounts went crazy, lots of cars were sold at low prices which dented the residuals. Plus the 335i had a negative impact on the desireability of the 330i.

Then as we know, it went arse up again at the end of 08.

It's just amazing how the world can change. I thought £10k (or thereabouts) for a 4 year old BMW 330i was a pretty 'safe' figure. Didn't imagine it would hit £10k within 3 years.

Yep totally agree - in 07 we almost bought an in-stock 320d M (18-20% off list) from a broker for less than you could buy used..but we walked away due to low spec.

Then rememeber reading a statement from BMW UK, about dealers discounting to much and undervaluing the brand/product. Soon after that no more large discounts and one on-line broker really got in the firing line and still to this day doesn't discount BM's

Shocking really, I was looking around sept time for a 330i/d when prices were around 17- 20k. Ended up getting a 56 reg 330i in late november for £12.5k - crazy thing was that it had 8.5k of options and only 10k on the clock, so pnly cost the previous owner £2.75 per mile!!!

That M3 is a stunning discount, I'd have found a way to have afforded it at that price if I'd have known about it.

Your 330i GadgetFreak was also a belting deal back in November. I'm embarrassed to say what my 330d cost me in May with 39k on the clock and what I was offered as a part-ex about 2 months ago. I've no choice but to hold onto mine.

Good for you, but I bet the guy selling the 330i needed to lie down in a dark room and contemplate for a while afterward.

Actually, I think he had a choice of a comfy x5 or S8 to lie down in.

As used prices have dropped it has put me in a situation where a 12 month old M-Sport is now in reach. Not withstanding the hit in depreciation my car has taken!

Do you think that the depreciation will flatten off over the next three years if we start climbing out of recession? I'm really in a quandry, take out a bigger loan to cover the negative equity on my old car by gambling that the used one will flatten off and could be worth a bit more in 2-3 years?

Whilst I'm not talking the 30-40k of the boys earlier its still a bit of a gamble!
