e90 Sub Upgrade

I've searched and only found install guides for an e93 and e91 L7. Correct me if im wrong but will the e93 DIY for a trunk sub box install work better for me with my e90 with professional HU and i believe it to be a HIFI because i have the two pillar tweeters?

Story is, I have a JLw3 12 and a JL500 amp just laying around and I'd like to put it in the Bimmer. I'm trying to do my research before I start so its done the right way but any DIY i find isnt exactly specific to my e90. I'd be happy to put an e90 DIY together if i could get the help needed to install.

Id also like to upgrade the subs under the seats. I believe that the Earthquake sws are the top choice here? are these hard to amplify? I've lost the thread that had the DIY on this...
edit: found this to be usefull
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ght=earthquake
also i see that a Earthquake upgrade and trunk sub upgrades are not recommended together....

thanks for any help

im also interested in this!
im looking to do a similar setup.

to start, goto ur hidden menu (hold the M button on the hu for 8 sec after u turn it on)
in there it will say stereo or hifi....but since you have the tweets its prob hifi coded. Just a quick easy check to be sure.

Thanks I'll check into this. I've also gotten ahold of technic for a harness so now I think if I follow the e92/93 DIY I can figure out the ground and power source and it should become easy from there right?

If youre putting a trunk sub in, your best best would to NOT get the sws since the sws is used as a "bumping" underseat bass. I have a trunk sub and i have jehnert xe200 as my underseat woofer and the sound is a lot crispier.

If you have hifi, I would suggest getting a JL XD600/6 amp with technics harness, that way you can just connect your sub via rca right in the rear. If not you can either:Splice into the oem amp harness with an LOC or run RCA cables from the rear to your aftermarket HU.

Yep i contacted Technic and I will Prob be ordering his add-a-sub harness for $105. I'll save upgrading the stock amp and adding new underseat mids for a later date.

for anyone reading this thread and looking to contact Technic you can PM him here: Technic

does anyone know if the add-a-sub harness only works with the stock amp... meaning if i switch the stock amp later down the road will i run into some troubles with this harness?

For those thinking about the harnesses here they are
Ad a sub

Ad an amp

.......................
I know you get what you pay for but has anyone tried the MB Quart NAU660 instead of the JL.
(Sorry I'm incredibly cheap)

Another question...

Will a 5 channel amp work to replace the stock am if I run the mids in a circuit with something like 200 RMS??? Example:
http://www.woofersetc.com/p-57-pmz12...amplifier.aspx

I've also found this but never heard of them:

I gotta hear your system, I have my box but no sub or amp cuz I don't know if I'll hear anything.

Well my Technic harness finally arrived! but it looks nothing like the others, comes with one black adapter and one white and has only the speaker and remote wires lableled. also has two seperate male RCA adapters? i have my own LOC.

So do i just cut his labeled wires and try to tie it in like a normal install?

earthquakes if you are not using a trunk sub.

the other ones, they start with a J have more mid bass and are ideal if you are already adding a trunk sub.

honestly, ive had many a trunk sub. Im a little older now, and i find the earthquake's more than adequate. THEY fucking POUND if needed. But offer such a clear crisp punchy sound

Tap -not cut- the woofer wires and the yellow (12v) and black (ground) wires if you are using a LOC with remote turn on signal. Otherwise just tap the woofer wires labeled.

That will give you the RCA for a sub amp.

The RCA pigtails included are in case that you want to eventually replace the OEM amp. Then you will need to cut all wires in the harness and remove 8 wires from it. Those 8-wires will be swapped with the RCA pigtails. I will send you the pin diagram of the harness so you will know which wires to swap.

The harness that you received is exactly like the one shown in the photo above under "add-a-sub" minus the LOC -as you requested.

Read and Search? its not hard there is actually an index of audio upgrades stickied in this sub forum...

contact the above user Technic for a wiring harness to avoid cutting factory wires.

That was the original configuration of the HiFi harness, until customers started installing the XD600/6 in droves to replace the OEM amp. Then the HiFi harness was changed to male RCA so they can be plugged in directly to the XD amp -no adapters, no extension cables:
