Hey guys,

I broke the nipple off my intake manifold during a CP install, I was wondering, can I place the brass fitting anywhere on the manifold or should it be placed relatively close to where the nipple originally was located? I'm trying to avoid taking the manifold off but I will if necessary,there are some great stop right on top of the manifold itself that I could easily drill and tap a brass fitting but I'm sure if that location would work or not. Any info is helpful, thank you

For anyone reading this post, it will likely be too late, but in the event that this helps someone, do NOT pull the hose off the nipple when you replace your charge pipe or swap on a bov/DV's etc. Simply just cut the hose off at the end of the nipple, then cut the remaining hose off the nipple by cutting with a razor length wise. The hose is more than long enough to sustain a 1 inch shortening and eliminates almost entirely the risk of breaking it off by trying to pull it off at a suboptimal level.

And to the OP, I know the pressures vary depending on where you place the sensor so just make sure you put the sensor back in the correct spot before/after the throttle body no matter what type of vacuum/boost hosing work you do. Fluttering of the tb blade has shown to affect boost numbers quite a bit.

Understood, thank you, but does it matter where I drill and tap the brass fitting, I was thinking about using jb weld to plug the nipple I broke and drilling almost directly above where the nipple was basically on top of the manifold, thus not forcing me the take the manifold off and tapping a brass fitting right next to the nipple.

as long as you are post tb on the manifold I don't think it will matter too much. I'd be more concerned about the quality of your work, jb weld getting loose or plastic from tapping the fitting getting into your cylinders/valves.

I was going to drill very very lightly and not make a hole and push the fitting in to reduce the chance of shaving getting into the manifold and then put some epoxy around the fitting to seal her up.... Does that sound like a good idea or no???

I actually decided NOT to drill a fitting. I found a smaller piece of tubing that fits perfectly in the original vacuum hole that I tore. So I'm going to just attach those and jb weld them and hope for the best. Thanks for all of the replies

I would be careful....Do it right and take the manifold off. Any shavings will get injested into the engine and that would not be a good thing...JB weld is not all that great too especially it gets very brittle and can crack off and with same result and get injested into engine...Best bet is to take off the engine and tap the brass fitting in correctly, or replace with a new manifold..

I would just turn a bad situation into a positive one by doing a 2 for 1 in the sense of getting your valves walnut blasted/tapping the brass fitting while the manifold is out...This is what I plan on doing, although silicone/JBweld has held up for a few months now..

+1 just broke mines today, reason i got my chargepipe was to run meth. im just gonna let her sit til spring and get a brass barb fitting get my local bmw tech to tap it in and also get my valves blasted before running meth. Honestly dont feel like trying to tap the hole while the manifolds on dont wanna risk a shitty job

I JUST went through this on my car. I ended up pulling the whole manifold. Honestly, it's not that hard. It takes some time the first time, but putting it back together is easy. I took the opportunity to clean my intake valves as well. Here's a link to my thread about it:

if anyone runs into this problem here is the specific fitting i used to tap my manifold
Brass Barb Fitting
1/8" NPT Male to 1/8" Barb and some epoxy plastic weld
