That's what I am planning to do. I don't want to cut any wires, that's why I chose a PnP one.
Why do you say that this is a waste of time? Do you mean a bad result or waste of money?

I mean both really, this is an improvement but it is slight.

The subs really need to be driven separately to the mids to get them both singing.

Also, running cables to the sill area is easier than running the plug and play harness to the head unit.

Get a 4 channel amp and some L7 tweeters, that will be worth your while.
Or just the amp to start.

The rears are crossed over at 100hz, just not worth doing anything with them.

The cost will be 90 euros for the 474PnP amp + 100 euros for the harness
(7607622011 Extension Cable - 5.5 Meters & 7607622016 adapter).

Do you think it's a fair price for the result you just described?

Has anyone tried Helix PP50 or PP40 DSP ?

gIzzE, your DIY post is awesome!

I think the harness is a waste of money.
I think, as I said earlier, that getting the signal from by the subs is easier, and then driving the subs and mids with their own channels, gives a much better result.

What model year is your car?

I have a e93 that I'd like to upgrade. 4 mid speakers (2 front & 2 back), subs under the seat and no tweeters and a professional head unit.

I'm planning on getting the tweeter moldings and foam back from my local dealer and then fitting some after market speakers. I was also planning on replacing the rears too. (I have the seat all the way back and my ears are closer to the rear speakers than the front ones!)

Can i fit this 5 channel amp in my car and If so where? There doesn't seem much space anywhere!

Also any recommendations on speakers for the front and the rear. I don't want to go overboard so I'm thinking £70 ish for each. No separate tweeters required for the rear.

I'm not planning on upgrading the subs at the moment either.I've only just bought the car and it's cost me £££ in new coils already!!

Thanks in advance!

@ TheBlondeFella

I replaced the rear OEM speakers with Earthquake Vtek-42.
A slightly difference in sound quality. They don't worth the cost.
Also needed modification to fit them.

Check this

Doesn't look like you can buy the 5 channel amp now anywhere.

All models are discontinued.
It's difficult to find the 5 channel one.
Only 275 & 475 are available in a few stock pieces.
Make sure that you will find the required cables before purchasing the amp.

HELIX PP20 DSP, PP40 DSP & PP50 DSP from Audiotec Fischer are also P&P amps but much more expensive.

Can I use a Blaupunkt THA 475 PnP - Plug & Play amplifier with the Gladen speakers? I might have found one with the cable in my price range.
If so, can this be fitted up front with the 2.5 cable or will I have to but it in the boot and use the 5 cable?

You will require 5 meter cable to have it done decently.
2.5 meter is too short.

And you will require following mod to run the underseats.

Front through front channels of the amp and rears through the rear channel of the amp. In OEM BMW sound system, front mids / speakers and underseats are connect in parallel, so power is halved. That is what has happened in your car.

What you should do?
1- Run rears through headunit rather amping them.
2- Manage the connections so all 4 channels get the signals from the front of your headunit.
3- Run new wires to your underseats from the amplifier. You will have to cut the wires going to your underseats and connect to these new wirings.

Here is what you should do.
1- Cut those wires and buy bullet connectors to connect these wires to each other. See number 1 in the photo. (connect wires and not connectors). Wires are colour coded, so connect the same colour wires.
2- Remaining portion of the wires on the clip on the left is input to the amplifier for the rear channel (use it for underseats). It should have signals from the front of your headunit.
So using wire tapping connectors, you should tap the wires of connector next to it (which is getting the signals for the front speaker). Once tapped correctly, all 4 channels of the amp will be getting the signals from the front of the HU.
3- Remaining portion of the wires of extreme right should be connected to the new wires going to the under seats.

So in nutshell, you should make sure that ;
- All 4 channels are getting the signals from the front of the head unit.
- Front channels of the amp will be used to power the door speakers (high passed)
- Rear channels of the amp will be used to power the under seats (low passed.

Hope that helps.

I'm gonna do the Gladen. Especially if it saves cutting all the wires you detailed in the Blaupunkt set up.

Sam, thanks for all your help and patience. Once it's all in, am I to assume (in typical BMW fashion ... I'm learning you know) it will need re-coding?

Its your choice. I always say that coding to hi-fi is must!
Search and read what people say about hi-fi coding and improvement in the sound.

Hey,

great purchase, but make sure the Lower Gladen amps can take a balanced input, as not all amps can take a balanced input. Also if the amp can't take a balanced input, then it might not work as the lower models i dont think have high level inputs.

Big difference

I´m back just to let you know that now I finally have some good sound

Thanks specially to gIzzE and makkan00, you rule!! After that everything was different!!

One final doubt, is it that important to connect the amp to the battery?
Ok, one more, it´s not that loud, can it be that the high and low pass settings are not correct?

Many many tks
