I think the 3 series all still look classy. I love the e46 look still even though I have an e92. I think the 92 looks very classy and future proof. As long as they drive well they really aren't going anywhere. My main concern is how the n54 holds up over time and if I can get 200,000 out of it with minimal repairs

IMO....the N54 was built as a benchmark, and as many have said they over built this motor which is a good thing for those who have long term intensions for a build
The new F32 motor just seems to be a more inferior motor to the N54. The F30-32 car itself looks sharp but I dont see it looking that much better than reputable 335is - legacy carrier of the N54 I remember when I got my 2007 E92 335i, and then the 335is came out I was I desired so strong to get the 335is, and not I finally got one. Samething happened with the release of the F9x cars, but I had more disappointment and repulse |

e46 still looks great, and still will when the f30 comes out. There comes a point where it becomes hard to keep developing a newer car to look "better", and perform significantly better, hence why e46 and e9x will continue to look great when the newer models are released, and are still awesome cars to drive.
You couldn't say the same 10 years ago, about models two generations older still looking nice and performing as well. e36 looked outdated when e46 came out, but so much progression has occurred since then. Cars have naturally plateaued a little bit, IMO, along with many other things in life that were progressively getting better and better with technology say 10-15 years ago. It's just difficult to keep significantly improving cars that are already so good. I'd almost say the newer models are more of a change than a MAJOR upgrade. Still might be an upgrade, but not a MUST have by any means if your car is running fine. So no, I am in no way ditching my car when the f30 comes out. I STILL have regrets of trading in my e46 for my e92, if I could go back, I wouldn't have done it. Ask any average person what they think of an e46 330ci zhp and you'll be surprised how much people love those cars, still one of the baddest ass looking cars out there, and you can pick them up for $15k easy. |

The E46 M-Sport still looks great, they are still really popular and holding their value really well over here in the UK. Theres a black LCI E46 330i M-Sport convertible right around the corner from me and whenever I see it I can't help but want it...very modern looking, fresh lines, they did a great job here so much so that the E92/93 almost looks like a different model altogether. I'd not hesitate to own an E46 convertible, M-Sport or M3 if I needed some extra cash but wanted a BMW still, that's for sure.
As has been said, E9x - F3x transition isn't so great so to most the difference won't be noticed and I doubt that people in love with the F3x would have a problem buying a used E9x, it'll still look fresh. The way I see it anyhow is that I have what, 2yrs until the F33 (presume that will be the cabrio), so I keep my E93 4yrs from now and by that time the F33 would have had two years to develop most of it's faults and have them fixed (and depreciate some ). Much like the '07 335i's over here had their issues ironed out by '08. |

I love my E46!! Still looks classy.
But I will probably not go for the Next Coupe/Conv, since I really don't like the way the new 3 looks.

After seeing the new design F32 - makes me really happy that I have an E92.
I'm not liking the new body style at all - if the design is still the same when I am trading in, I'll be going with another mfg...

If you don't want a 4cyl turbo then stay away from the f32 328i and get the f32 6cyl 335i. Problem solved, now that wasn't too hard was it.

If they are available with an inline 6 I will look at the 4 series, otherwise forget about it. I'm already having a hard time getting over the headlights that stretch to the grilles on the new BMWs, but a 3 Series (or it's successor) lacking an inline 6 seems sinful.
EDIT: Wow sorry I didn't notice how old this thread was. |

I will always love a good straight six and if you are worried about your car looking old I will trade you my E92 even up for a good E9 3.0CSx with 5-speed any day of the week. The day I can't get a small/mid sized RWD coupe with a decent straight six engine will be a true day of mourning for car enthusiasts everywhere.

I got a chance to drive the F30 328i and man the thing is quick but the steering is more luxurious, short story though..it isn't anything like the E9x 328. And with sport body the F30 looks great IMO even though it has a squished nose Can't wait for the F8x

As of now F30 steering wheel sucks. It's too light and shakes. I had a 3k miles F32 loaner and the steering wheel was shaking @40-45mph speed. However, the car was def quicker as compared to current automatic 328i. |
