328i - PE or Magnaflow Catback?
I am considering between PE vs. magnaflow catback. Input welcomed.
I love the note of an aggressive exhaust but definitely don't want it to be over the top and annoying, as it is also a daily driver. One thing I truly dig is the exhaust note when the car starts up. Everytime I hear the 335i beside me starts up, always get me going. On this note, which one of these exhaust system gives me a more exciting note during start up? Any input welcomed. |

PE all the way. except, why spend that kind of money? Go with a MMW CS exhaust v1 or v2... save a ton of money, and have a better sounding better performing exhaust. Its really a no brainer in this case.... more power and better sound for less money...why wouldnt you?

The best way to get a good sound and is really cheap is try out a muffler delete, if you want louder, go towards the PE. Magnaflow sounds good and all but at the warm up, it sounds like a simpy v8 for our cars. Not to mention the PE has WAYYYY better resale value. And it doesn void warranty and more of the time, if a cop pulls you over for modified exhaust, they'll let you go cuz its oem

I'll throw out the option of the Rogue Ikon. I have that with the resonator delete. Priced in between the cheaper magnaflow and the incredibly expensive PE. The PE is nice, but for like $700+ less than the PE my Rogue Ikon sounds exactly how I wanted the car. Some growl when I step on it, deeper tone without the slightest bit of drone. I expected a good exhaust, and I ended up with what was the perfect sound I was after.

It depends how loud you like it. On a 328i in a scale 1 to 10 and 10 being the loudest, The magnaflow is a 6.5 while the PE is a 8.
Maybe price is not an option for you, but the Mflow is 300 to 400 cheaper too. This is my opinion only since i have the MFlow and have heard the PE personaly. Both cars were bone stock. I hope this helps Lou.

Here's a good thread to help you decide. I think the BMW PE just sounds growlier, if that's even a word, than the Magnaflow. But then again, I have a PE so I'm biased anyways. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=619094 |

Magnaflow owner here.
I like the Magnaflow because it has a deep rumble at low rpm, but not too loud at high rpm. I have an AFE intake that screams at high rpm, so I think the Magnaflow and AFE complement each other really well. And it does sound pretty mean on cold start. Also it's a full cat-back. I didn't want just a race muffler |

I have to disagree here. I had both exhaust; I ran the MMW for almost a year and something just doesnt add up with this exhaust. The sound is ok; but not that great. It got that deep tone that doesnt seem to get high enough "pitch-wise" when you are at high RPMs and I got a feeling that's very hard to explain. And those poping noises were very loud and remembered me more of old cars then an actual performance exhaust. So I tried putting the MMW midpipes that Gavin made for me. Supposed to be bolt-on. After $300 worth of labor, we finaly got them to fit. But I still didnt reach the sound I really wanted. But I was ok with that.... Just because I didnt knew any better. Until I heard the PE in person. You think it sounds nice on video? Think again. It sounds AMAZING in person. But I agree with you; I didnt want to spend all that money on an exhaust. I already had spent a grand in the MMW exhaust setup. Until I saw a decent deal. So I sold the MMW for $600 and grabbed a used PE for $650 and wham bam bonsoir madame; I got the best exhaust that there is on the market for that car for pretty much the same price. With all the people going to F30 or from N52 to N54/55, you should have no problem finding one. The sound of the PE is mean at low RPM; but turns exotic when it gets past the 4k rpms. It also get that deep growl when you release the throttle. Love it. And I can tell you right now; its not getting off the car before the car is actually removed from the roads
