Over heating.

I posted a thread earlier and now I can't find it lol my car over heated today. I first got the amber light right after that it turned red. It lost power as I would step on the gas. Then as I opened the coolant cap it threw all the water out. Then I filled it up with water and ran it for the 12 mins. And when I turn off the car and open the cap it throws the water out again but now it's only the radiator light that turns on.

The coolant system is pressurized so it will spew out steaming water and coolant if you open it while its hot. Over heating car usually points to the electric water pump and thermostat failing which is typical of BMW having cooling systems go bad after 60-100k.

Yeah I just hit 103k miles. Should I try the thermostat first see if it's that?
