e90 clutch

Has anyone had to replace the clutch on their 2006 e90 325i? What is the average lifespan of a clutch? I feel like mine might be going and I bought the vehicle in July 2005 and it is at 60k miles now. Is this normal or should the clutch last much longer?

Depends on driving conditions, driver, etc... here's my 330i's after 52k miles of urban/suburban crawling (pulled as part of a transmission swap)... Tech stated it's about 50% worn. Click for more images:

Fwiw, i was pushing over 100k on my previous car's og clutch in the same Bay Area conditions. While the clutch engagement was pretty high (signs that the clutch was nearing its end of life), there was zero slip. With a deft foot, and no abuse, clutches can easily run well over 100k miles...

Transmission swap? What are you swapping it for?

Reasonably well... a) warrantied b) 1-2 in the new box is incrementally better. But still, 1-2 shifts in these e90's is not a happy thing. The videos of 335i's shifting quickly while racing M3s and such make me envious... no way in hell can I get a 1-2 shift that quickly. I'd wager 335i m/t gearboxes are different than those on the 325i~330i's... [goes to realoem to check part #'s]

Too bad there's no DCT retrofit...

When I had my Mazda 6, I had about 65K on the car and did not have any issue with the clutch and it was not that worn. At the same time, I new a few guys with the same car that had to have the clutch replaced at 35K so it really does depend on how you drive.

Yeah. They do have a different tranny. I believe they have a ZF tranny while we have some outsourced GM tranny or something like that. (im just recalling from memory about the GM thing) And a DCT retrofit would be so awesome! But you miss half the fun of the manual transmission, lol.

I just had this done about a month ago. I also haven't seen much of an improvement from the old transmission. They found a lot of metal shavings in the original one, and I'm concerned it may happen again.
