Thinking of buying an E60 M5
Hi All,
So.. still have that "need a new car" itch.. and have been considering an E60 M5, they have come down a long way in price and are now within my 100k budget.. So, my question to you lot is.. 2006 M5 or 2008 M3? M3 brings the benefit of current body shape (at least for another 18 months).. M5 Brings that V10! I generally only hold onto cars for 18-24 months.. so interested in your comments (and yes, I KNOW I am an indecisive PITA.. you should ask my wife!)

Man, I'm thinking of an M5 once I don't have vehicle restrictions any more. I'd say go for the M5 first, then the M3 in 18-24 months. Be sure to whack on a nice exhaust on the V10 and drive through plenty of tunnels!!!
You already drive a 335i so I suppose you are not afraid of visiting a dealer/mechanic, and I hear that the M5 had some VANOS problems or something. Also not sure about the SMG gearbox. |

M5 followed by an M3 is the way to go considering they are at an attractive price point you will get to again only after another 7 year lifecycle.
EDIT: just don't loose your license like this guy, also is a UK import, might get a great price on it. http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/...eot=1&__N=1216 1282 4294966843 4294729565 4294967079&silo=1011

Infact, I would go as far as to say that "certain" posters on this forum would have a Holden Statesmen on 22's over an M3.. but only if you lived in the correct suburb of course (Redfern Perhaps?)
To those of you that commented about the M5 v M3.. I like your thinking.. trips to the dealer do worry me, hence I will be looking for a car that has already had a new clutch & flywheel fitted, and will be leaning strongly towards a dealer purchase, just for the warranty perspective (average though they are, some warranty is better than none!) To the E9X M3 Owners (Rossi!) what are you paying for insurance (PM me if you like)..

M5 would be awesome. Newer cars are always nicer... hard to go wrong with either.
Have you seen the house prices in Redfern lately? No muzzas within a 25km radius, way too expensive! Whilst a 335 and an M3 aren't the same thing, they do share the basic DNA so a sense of familiarity may come creeping back, whether a good thing or not. |

That V10 is one of the all time great engines. Probably the last high capacity NA engine BMW will ever do. Get right on it.
M5 also has massive pimp factor over the M3. You'll be known as the drug dealer rather than the bic lighter repairer.

And the V10 is the big motivator for me.. Whilst I love Turbos (last 5 cars have had at least one), IMHO anything ///M should be NA and high revving, and whilst I have no doubt the new M5 will be an absolute monster, it isn't going to be as special.. that my opinion anyway
