Best place to sell my baby: 2009 335i
Hi all,
Not sure this is the right place to post this, but was hoping to get some advice from the group about the best way/place to sell my car. I just moved to Toronto from Vancouver, and am finding the car really isn't necessary now. Should I contact some dealerships to see if they'll buy it, or try the craigslist thing? It's a 2009 335i M-Sport sedan. 6 spd manual Space Grey Navigation Audiophile package Comfort access Parking sensors I'm sure I'm forgetting some key features/packages... Under 38,000 km I haven't done any research yet to see what the market value of the car is, but it's like new. I hate to get rid of it, but I don't have decent parking here and I'm taking the TTC to work now, so it's really hard to justify keeping it. I LOVE THIS CAR. Thanks for any suggestions or advice. |

You won't get as a good price selling to the dealership as you would by selling privately. Try autotrader, craigslist, etc.

On Craigslist you will mostly get a bunch of scammers asking you to wire them money via Western Union...

Sounds like a beautiful car, so you won't have trouble selling it. If you sell to a dealer you'll take a huge hit. For your car I'd guess somewhere around $4K or maybe more versus selling it privately. If you're ok with that it's the easiest way to do it.
If you're not ok with that you can do trader.ca, kijiji, and craiglist for free (and of course this forum). You will get all kinds of low ballers, people calling to tell you they have buyers lined up for your car and you only need to give them a few hundred bucks for the privilege, and all kinds of people who set up a time with you to look at the car and then don't show up or call to cancel. And for a nice 335 like yours there are the test pilots who have no intention of buying but want to go for a spin. So you have to filter through all that. It's a pain in the butt. Or, you could get a good buyer right out of the gate and do an easy transcation. Those are pretty much your options and things you can expect. |

Posting it on this forum and getting someone from here to buy it will weed out the tire kickers as mentioned will come from the other online ad places. Welcome to Toronto!
By the way, come out for some of the meets and cruises...along with the one posted this Sunday (with the Rennlist/Ferrari guys) and you will keep it for sure lol. Last edited by Jon@Bimmersport Automotive; 09-16-2011 at 02:44 PM.. |

Thanks for all the advice. Just to clarify... should I post the car in this Canada forum, or under the general classified section? Or maybe both? Just not sure of the protocol..

Post an ad on CL and see what happens. Most of the responses will be from people offering to pay you more than the car is worth with what turns out to be a fraudulent cashier's cheque, in return for you wiring the balance to them. Sounds retarded, and of course the OP wouldn't fall for this, but it is just annoying that a good chunk of all the responses on CL fall into this category.
