Ranking exhaust volume

Hi everyone,

Trying to get an idea from you experts out there what volume/loudness we're looking at for different N55 exhausts.

On a scale of 1 to 10, let's consider the stock exhaust a 1, and catless downpipes with muffler delete a 10.

Please add what you think each system would be...for example, I'd guess:

--BMW PE Exhaust with stock downpipes = 4 ??

--Corsa axelback with stock downpipes = 4

--BMW PE Exhaust with catless downpipes = 7 ??

Would love to know your ratings on others like AFE, Vanguard, AMS, Borla, etc. Seems this might help a lot of folks that spend money on an exhaust setup only to find out it's too loud or too quiet for their tastes, and then have to change.

I would say BMW PE with catless is a 6 or 7. There are set ups much louder.

Dinan mufflers with everything else stock would be a 3 I think. AA Exhaust would be a 8. PE would be a 6/7. Those are the only ones I have heard/had.

AA was too loud for me and Dinan is on the quieter side. But loudness is very much personal preference. I liked the loudness of the AA, it was just too much for me personally. I wish the dinan was a tad louder, with that being said.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but anyone have a recommendation for something between catless downpipe with stock muffler and catless downpipe with pe exhaust? I was thinking 335is mufflers.

Many say 335is exhaust is very similar to PE

Replace secondary cats if you have with resonators, delete altogether, or open up the mufflers and remove some packing--but gain some drone

How loud would catless DP with stock exhaust be on a 1-10 scale, and how could you make it quieter?

Under WOT, 7-8. Under cruising, 2-3. You won't experience drone or anything like that.

How could you quiet that down closer to stock sound? Resonators? Secondary cats?

Resonator will be a major help as it'll make it quiet. Also, midcoast(but this is essentially like a resonator). I have xDrive, so I don't have to worry about the noise. But I can tell you that it's not loud at all to me. To be honest, my last car was louder overall with a DP.

I have AR Catted DP's with the stock 335is exhaust. I would say this is about a 7 or 8. Louder than either I or the installer thought it would be.

I am looking for an exhaust to quiet it down a bit.

Yes, 335is has secondary cats. Is a Dinan or Corsa
exhaust quieter ?
