How does the warranty work? (Buying used)

Looking to purchase a 335i in the spring. I'm interested in an 07 with around 35K miles so I can take advantage of maintenance and warranty should it need it.

I assumed all the 335's were eligible for the extended warranty, but BMW sales tells me its only for CPO'd vehicles. Is that true? What if I purchased from CarMax / Acura Dealer / Private seller?

This is my first time purchasing a vehicle with warranty - some of the info I've found on here contradicts what the sales person told me. She made it seem like the only chance I had at a decent warranty / service experience was to buy CPO BMW.

Original BMW warranty is 4yr/50k. After that you're on your own unless the car has been CPO'd, which then carries an extended warranty to 6yr/100k (from in-service date). Not all cars on a BMW lot are CPO so you have to ask. Dealers can also CPO their cars if you pay for the certification process, which costs $2000-$2500. It will depend on whether the car needs new tires or not.

When I bought mine, they didnt know that it had been previously CPO'ed, but it was still under new car warranty. They had a guy come sit with me and make this big elaborate presentation about the extra warranties they could offer me, which seemed to start at several grand. Halfway through this guys speal, they found a record that said it was previously CPO'ed and therefore already had the coverage I was about to pay for. The warranty guy packed his crap up and walked away without saying bye.

So, yes, my BMW dealer CAN sell warranties to non-CPO cars.
Not to be confused with "maintenance packages" which are probably a waste.

like others said you only get what is left of original BMW 4yr/50,000 mile warranty.

CPO get an additional 2 years and up to 100,000 miles added.

Depending on price could still be a good buy.

I just got 2007 E90, Ti Silver, 20k miles, steptronic, premium and sport packages with heated seats and sirius for low $30k range.
