Cetane Boost: 2-ethylhexyl nitrate (2-ehn) - Good or Bad?
So I came across this article touting 2-EHN as the preferred cetane booster earlier in the week, which can be found in the new ArchOil 6800. Well, that stuff is not available over here yet, so I did a little research and read a few different MSDS's of popular Cetane Boosters, and found that Amsoil's Cetane Boost uses 2-EHN.
http://www.oilem.com/what-is-the-best-cetane-booster/ http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-produc...-cetane-boost/ I thought all was great as I've always read good things about Amsoil, but now I read some who say not to use alkyl nitrates because they can break down the fuel in storage. (My 335 is not a daily driver.) Most cetane improvers contain alkyl nitrates which break down readily to provide additional oxygen for better combustion. They also break down and oxidize fuel in storage. This generates organic particulates, water, and sludge - all of which degrade fuel quality. The result is often a fuel which no longer meets even minimum requirements. (*Because of these drawbacks, nitrate cetane improvers are not used in Fuel Magic.) http://www.superfuelsaver.com/Cetane%20Booster.html Would somebody who knows more than I on this, care to comment?
