I have a 2008 E90 with the CCC+USB option. After reading every USB thread I could find on here I picked up a 64GB USB stick (I didn't like the idea of having to run another cable for power).

I tested it out by formatting to FAT and throwing 10 or 15 songs on it. The car picks it up and indexes everything in milliseconds.

I then synchronized about 24GB of music over to it and tried again... but the indexing never finishes. Occasionally it will show up with a browse option but even on a 3 hour roadtrip it never finishes indexing by artist/genre/etc.

The USB threads I found seemed to indicate there are people running 80GB+ with no problems at all.

• How are those 80GB+ folks getting the indexing to finish?
• Is there an index I can pregenerate and drop on the drive to help it out?
• Is there a software update I might be missing, and if so how do I confirm what version the car is running?

Some additional details:

• Confirmed stick is in FAT format
• Confirmed stick works / indexing works with low amount of songs
• I tried downgrading everything to 256 based on a thread I found
• I checked IDv3 tags for images / bad chars
• I tried changing the folder structure to have fewer nested folders
