As far as DD it just depends on how one drives lol.. I still get 17-18 city and 30 hwy mpg and other than the slight exhaust note it drives like stock unless i floor it. If you want a tune to not worry about, get some added pep and spend little time at the track chasing ETs then Dinan seems like a good choice. If you want to take down tuned 5.0s and other muscle cars at the track and make a scene and dont mind making occasional adjustments, then a piggy back is the way to go.

I will just put it this way. If I did not have "all" Dinan mods ie FMIC, CAI, OC, FFE, and IC (Stage 3) on my previous E92 335i I would never have gotten a 2011 335iS DCT
Yes, thats right, because I had Dinan on my car I got brand spanking new and better car. Same Stage 3 mods migrated over to my 335iS FREE OF CHARGE compliments of the Braman BMW. Steve Dinan was even nice enough to not charge me again for the stage 3 software. Do I have Dinan software on my car anymore ? Its obvious not....I dont have to worry about hiding anything from the my local dealer anymore. The car goes in as it is with RENNtech badging It doesnt matter if Dinan delivered breath taking power, it still will not be worth it regardless of their warranty coverage and FREE SUPPORT in the eyes of those who are advanced in tuning their own cars Some of us, like myself, dont want to deal with the hastle if problems arise, its a matter of dropping it off to whoever and have them fixt it. This is why we paid the high price. I, and many others, am not a DIY person, many of you are. I prefer to just give to someone else to deal with the headache. I am a DIY person when it comes to computers so I totally understand where those negative towards Dinan are coming from. I also think they are high priced but I also understand where those are coming from that would rather go with Dinan. If warranty was not a factor in this issue yes I am sure Dinan software would not have even been looked at |

I don't get an engine warranty, but I get lots of HP and TRQ...exactly what I was looking for and good customer service as well.

I bought my 335i when it was a year old with full 6yr CPO warrany and maint, I have never been very hands on with cars, due to always owning trucks and this 335i is my first BMW and car at that. I just wanted some more pep in my daily driver in traffic so I got the Dinan S2 tune on discount and it has run great ever since. I am one to take my car to the dealer to get fixed, and i have with no problems when they know I have a Dinan tune and never have given me any problems. Yet when I go to car meets and on the forums people hate and say how I could be so much faster with a diff tune. I could care less, I have a nice daily driver with a decent tune and I bought the Dinan FFE used. Idk why people hate so much when it has nothing to do with them.
But anyways, glad to see you like your S3, good to see someone got it tuned and someone else has it with a different OC and FMIC. I almost got a ETS FMIC the other week, do you like yours? What are people opinons on a OC? The ER? Last edited by CUTigers; 11-18-2012 at 02:39 PM.. |

For what its worth going from Stg 2 to Stg 3 suggests a quest for more power then just a little bump over stock. At that point I think you need to rethink the path since Dinan will not get you there because its designed to be a warranty beater & is very gentle compared to other systems.

Why can't the guy enjoy his upgrades and tune?
I had Dinan S2 on my'09 335i and was very happy with it. I knew that it didn't provide the best bang for the buck but that wasn't what I was looking for at the time. I knew stronger tunes were out there but I really enjoyed the added performance over stock and peace of mind (via the warranty provided) that Dinan provided. It's true that there haven't been very many complete engine melt down situations out there with other tunes but I sure wasn't going to be one of them and I was willing to pay for the added security. I also didn't care about having the fastest car, and if I did I clearly wouldn't have picked Dinan over the other obvious choices - nobody is arguing that there are faster and cheaper options. I almost equate this to choosing a Mac over a regular PC. Will they both do the same job? Can one be made faster than the other? Can the more processing speed be added to the PC at a minimal cost? Yes sir!!! While I paid more for my Mac, I've never had it crash like ever other PC I've owned. In other words, I'm happy to have a little less performance and pay a little more for maximum up time. Every performance decision has a risk/reward component so we shouldn't bag on folks for picking the safer route - and it can't be argued that less boost and tapering at high RPM levels is ultimately safer for the engine and components. Congrats on your upgrades!!! |

Yes Stage two will be ok on a stock car so long as it came with a factory Oil Cooler HP gains is about 20-30 WHP bringing you up to about 296-306 WHP from 265-270 whp (stock). I think toque (Dinan S2) was somewhere betwen 350-360 WTQ These number are actual numbers to the wheels. Dinan advertised numbers claim is to the crank in which there is a 15-17% loss in power before WHP/WTQ |
