Will the '09 335 have lag issue?

Does anyone know if the 2009 models will have this lag problem? I remember reading somewhere that maybe the turbos will be a new design...I tried a quick search but didnt come up with anything.

Also, when will the dealers have 2009 models? October?

My 2007 335i lease is up next month...I wont lease another unless I know that this lag crap is fixed on the 2009's.

I ordered an 09 and it should arrive in about 2 weeks. So my relentless searching has confirmed that nothing has been changed on the 09 engine. It would be a pleasant surprise, but I wouldn't expect it. The lag issue is also still part of the option pack. So I'll go Dinan.

My late model '08 has no lag issues. I don't think the '09 guys should have anything to worry about.

I swear I saw somewhere that the turbos/wastegates were redesigned for the 2009s.

I'll be very interested to drive a 2009. My 2007 was FANTASTIC until may when I got updated to the revised progman. I've also heard that the aftermarket tunes are affected by the new software. Otherwise, I would probalby go Dinan, too.

You can go Dinan. Dinan uses a pre 29.2 progman.

Unfortunately, the 2008 models are affected by the updated software/lag. The purpose of this thread is to find out about the 2009s.

i think the big problem is people who are updated can tell the difference!
people who get the car with the new software and DME cant tell the difference and have nothing to base it on.

I think Bubbles had hinted at this possibility. I believe he received some "new" turbos not to long ago and thought they may carry over to the 09's. I don't think it's anything concrete yet.

Here is the link.

I am curious why you would buy from a company that screws their customers the way BMW is?

I will buy many more cars in my life but none of them will be a BMW. There are a lot of cool, fun to drives cars out there. reward the makers who aren't a bunch of f'heads.

imok, that's a fair question. I totally understand your point. This lag issue has been a huge pain in the a$$ for a lot of people - including me. It SUCKS.

At the same time, here's what I'm thinking: I believe that the pre-29.2 335 is what BMW intended to provide to buyers. And, I believe the software-induced lag (or de-tuning, or whatever you want to call it) is basically a band-aid to prevent a design flaw in the FI system from destroying a large number of motors. It's my impression that these types of design problems can happen when a manufacturer implements a new technology into their product line. Obviously, BMW hasnt done a lot of FI cars...and they didnt get the N54 quite right the first time - shame on them.

I'm not making excuses for BMW, or denying they screwed up.

I sort of half-expected to have some problems with the car when I took delivery on my 2007 335 (since it was the first year for the N54). So, maybe that's why I'm not really feeling too victimized by this lag issue.

I totally understand how some people could feel like they have been screwed and will never buy from BMW again.

But, the pre-29.2 335 is the best car I have ever owned. If BMW can straighten out the lag issue on the 335, I probably will want another one.

Tyler/Dwight,
Thanks for the answer and not taking my question wrong.

I would agree, they are damn nice rides.

Cheers
