Anyone had success using the Bav Tech software with any other OBDII cable? You can buy OBDII to USB cables for relatively cheap.

Why fart around? The whole purpose of getting the gen BT is for support and guaranteed functionality. People with $50K plus cars should not complain about a $300 investment.

Do you really think the BT cable is just a regular OBD2 cable?

The BT folks would have to be seriously retarded to give away software and charge for the cable if it was just an OBD cable.

They state right on their website that even their own cables for other models will not work between different brands. I am sure it will eventually get reverse engineered in China and built for 20 bucks if it can be done, but if they where smart, there is something in the hardware that will prevent that (unlike carsoft!)

There is data in the main connector that identifies the unit as well as stores the VIN you have connected to. It isn't just a cable, it is a cable with storage and encrypted data.

I have. I can sell it to you for $289. It looks identical. Such a good copy that it will fool anyone. How many you want?

I guess that was a dumb question.

Not only are their people on here that were "given" a 50k car, there appears to be few snobs about tuning.

the bav auto scan tool came in handy last weekend at the glen w/my m3 as i got an EML light and found a faulty throttle positioning sensor, that had oil on one of its contacts

thank god i spent that $300 as it saved me alot of aggravation if i didn't have one and was concerned about what was wrong w/my car.

Not really a dumb question M8. I am all for saving money, but I have taken shortcuts in the past and got bitten in the ass. I keep forgetting about the gifted cars, lol. These kids probably don't have credit cards or Paypal.
