Oh what a night :/

So it's Sunday and I try to go watch Avatar with my gf, movie is sold out so I go out to eat instead. I come out to my car and see a white patch on the drivers door, I think it's the light but its not. My driver side door was hit (possibly side swiped) and had scuffs and a nice deep scratch in it. I was so pissed, I go to the body shop this morning and the car will be fixed by tomorrow. $350.00 bucks for nothing I did wrong this sucks especially because I am always super carefull not even to tap another car while driving, parking, etc... Who ever did this will get it back to them, I'm not going to wish bad on them (though I want to) but thanks for screwing up my week off.
On the plus side while they're fixing the mess the guy said he'll paint my side refelctors for me at no charge. The guy does great work and has been doing my familys cars for a while now, I trust the job will come out fine. Thanks for hearing me out guys. Wish you all happy holidays and a happy new year.

Thats awful. I am always worrying where I park my Bimmer. Some people are so inconsiderate.

Could you not claim off your insurance?

Is it considered normal to tap another car when parking? Or are you talking about the doors?

Insurance usually has a deductible fee, might have cost more like that. Still tho, way to ruin a weekend.

Two Things,

1. Avatar is a great movie. Trying seeing it during the weekday, when its not full of people. Its long but well worth it.

2. The same thing happen to me when I had my EVO IX and I parked far away from everyone and I was like you, always careful. So with my BMW I just stop caring and guess what no incidents yet. I guess when you think about it all the time you attract it. Anyways sorry to hear about your ruin weekend.

In Chicago it's almost a common practice for some people who park on the street.

Unfortunately, in NYC it is considered completely normal and acceptable for cars to tap one another when parking. Even the attendant parking garages park by feel (and one recently gouged my rear bumper ).

Sometimes it's easier to just pay out of pocket for a simple cosmetic fix. On the bright side, OP you can now look forward to your car looking better than before. (assuming the same asshat didn't scratch your side reflectors)

A $1k Comprehensive is ridiculously high. If that's what you're paying, you should reevaluate your policy and check the cost difference in deductibles and see how it affects your premium.

Sorry about the damage, however...I'd be absolutely livid.

did your insurance go down when you started burning oil? don't diesels usually have way lower insurance because of ingrained stereotypes about the cars?

Insurance went up $360/year because I had an 07 328 before. They didn't mention any discounts specific to the fact that the car was a diesel (I use Allstate).

so true, on my first car i never understood why my rear bumper always looked fudged up. everytime i street parked i was careful to never park too close to a car. also even if i had, you figured the guy behind you would hit you on an angle as he was turning to get out so it made no sense. then one day i saw the parking garage attendant park my car for me as i was on my way to work (had monthly parking garage at the time) and saw that he backed into another car. but he did exactly what ^^ described... they park by feel, had no intention of stopping unless he felt something.

i ran over and asked WTF he was doing, and the guy who could barely speak english said the car was fine and he didn't hit anything. i told him i was standing RIGHT there when it happened and then he shrugged his shoulders, apologized and walked away.

Yea thats why when you drive anywhere in NY everyone always has those "bumper bullies" out, sometimes even while driving haha. But yea I've known many drivers in NY that normally tap cars when parking. They never stop backing up until they feel a little nudge I think they call it a "love tap" lol

It is a "love tap" double parking in NYC is a biatch!
Anyway sorry about your car that's frustrating to say the least.
On another note I saw Avatar in the IMAX and it's an awesome movie "a must see"!!!
