AFe Stage 2 Si Intake
So I decided to finally get an intake for some noise. I read a review or 2 on the sealed box intake from AFe and it sounds like it had few or no problems and sounded decent. Once I put it on, however, it sounds pretty nice at everywhere except 3k rpm. Right around bout 2800-3200 rpm I have THE WORST drone possible.. Like seriously i didnt even think this was possible. Its like the whole intake turns into a vuvuzela. I'm thinking I might have overtorqued some bolt(s) down now there's extra vibrations happening? Has anyone else who got this intake experienced the same thing? Possibly had the same problem and fixed it?
Besides this problem, getting it on the car wasn't too bad. The worst part was dealing with the absurdly short screws they give you for the MAF sensor. With the foam spacer they supply, it leaves about one thread left at the bottom. Luckily I had someone else there to compress the spacer for me while I put in the maf, but otherwise it would have been a bit of an inconvenience for just installing the MAF. Also dont ask if theres any more power please. So far ive driven about 5 miles, all of which was on 2" of snow and ice so i have literally no idea.

Mine had a little drone when I first installed it. I dont notice it anymore. I dont know if it slowly went away or my ears became use to it. Did you get the carbon fiber top or the ABS top? I wonder if the carbon top is thinner causing more drone.

I got the regular black top. I read it didn't look very good in carbon fiber so i figured i would save myself $40 or however much more it costs

The extra noise in the cabin kinda makes it sound like a burly V8. Good intake, noticed a slight increase in MPG when I'm driving reasonably LOL. Did you get the oiled or dry filter? I'm running the oiled.

I ordered the dry, but it came from turner and it was oiled. I mean i guess ill get an extra 0.5 hp or something like that, but have to clean my maf and re-oil it every once in a while. not really a big deal either way i guess

Like someone said, it seems to have gotten better. Still louder around that rpm range, but not as much vibrations, just louder

It will come down a bit more over the next few months. You'll get use to it and hopefully enjoy the sound as I do

Sure. I'll try to get to it this week. I have my last final for my semester then winter break .. but I think I lost one of the bolts for the cover. I didnt torque them down too hard because I was afraid of breaking the plastic, but because of that, the cold weather and heated garage (screws hate heat expansion) , and just vibrations one got loose and fell somewhere.. So if you get the intake, make sure to be pretty firm with those bolts on the top.

I suppose its working well. Since I put it on I figured I would reflash my AA tune and let it readapt to the new intake. It has a nice sounds and it probably pulls a little harder higher in the rpm range. Now that it's on I think the RPMs rise a little bit when i push the clutch in for some reason now. But for the most part i'm happy with it.
