Hmm I should of waited to do this instead of buying the K&N drop-in >:
Ninja - AutoZone for the parts OP used. I believe Spectre/Air duct mount plate Part # 8148 and Cone air Filter Spectre P3 Part #9132 (Correct me if I'm wrong please :]). Can anyone fill me in if this is better to do than the K&N drop-in?

Hate to revive an old thread but does anyone still have this running? Any Pro/Cons with the simple mod?
Need some small projects to do during spring lol

This mod gave me back my low end torque AND still had the pull in the high end! This mod is a major WIN! Plus some cyba scoops to complete the setup

I used everything mentioned except i bought a bigger filter on accident and had to modify my air box to fit it inside. But it's a very simple mod actually.

good to go so far. It does pull a tad harder in the upper rpms, nothing crazy tho. just a bit better than stock. I used a pre oiled filter and have not cleaned it or anything so far. but there is a small hole in my airbox so everything would fit.

Wow this mod was easy, all you need a Dremel pretty much.

does anyone realize that airflow through a filter is basically a function of surface area? just because it's a cone-shaped filter doesn't mean it flows better, the number of pleats and size of that cone is definitely worse than the stock paper filter. the only possible way it could flow better is if it has bigger pores in the filter media, in which case you still don't get any better flow but you let more dirt in your engine..

surface area still matters - the stock filter has way, way more pleats than that, plus a larger raw footprint. if the cotton media flows 50% better (not likely), but has 2/3 the surface area, you gain nothing but a dirty motor.

so wouldn't a cone filter have a smaller surface area (for the smaller one that would fit in the box)? So why would it be better for performance, just asking as this is something that always made me hesitate to do this custom intake....
