Getting front and rear bumper resprayed

For those that have had their bumpers painted, did the bodyshop have to blend into adjacent panels to get a good colour match? If not, how was the colour match? I'd really prefer to leave the metal panels untouched.

Plastic parts are never the same color as metal. The static charge of plastic causes the metallics to orient themselves differently than on metal. Even paint without metallics acts this way. A really good painter can counter some of this effect during the mix, but an absolute match requires some luck. From the factory the bumpers don't match perfectly. Some manufacturers are worse than others. The best color match for BMW are found by using either BMW Color system or Sikkens brands of paint.

Just had my front bumper done & the match was awful at first, but after a month or so it seemed to settle down a bit & isn't as noticeable now. They did polish the wings & bonnet, but didn't make them match any better at the time!!

You don't have to blend it. A good body shop can easily make it match 99% of the way without blending into adjacent parts.

Just paint, no R&I, looking around $325 from a shop that charges $45/hr.

Just as many others stated their results.. I also had my Jet Black E92 M3 bumper painted, and at first it seemed like it was way off from my jet black panels, but it's weird because after like two months you can't even tell a difference now..

Price to R&I the bumper is usually around $150 or a little less. Again shop rate $45/hr.
