Without Nav
Ive been offered a very nicely specced 330D, with all the toys; Leather, heated seats, HIFI, Bluetooth, xenons, etc etc, but it doesnt have nav;
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...easc&logcode=p I can get it at trade, which is considerably cheaper! (even though its already bloody cheap) Now Im not bothered not having the nav, as I rarely use it anyway, and its not that good, however to use the telephone, and ipod etc etc, how easy is it on a non nav model? is it as easy to access as an idrive model? Cheers in advance

easy to use phone without nav - all the controls are just done through display and buttons on the radio. to dial out is a bit more long winded than the one button answer, but still pretty simple!

I have a non-nav '08 330d with bluetooth, phone prep., cd changer etc. Works well enough - there are controls on the steering wheel for telephone voice command & answer incoming call so you aren't fiddling with the buttons on the console while driving. Bluetooth pairing and copying phone book wasn't too hard, although I haven't needed to fiddle with it for a year now.
I use a 32GB MP3 player (Cowon S9 if you care) with a USB cable to the socket under the central arm rest - takes a few seconds to read the track names but it's not annoying. Scrolling through that many tracks with the right hand knob on the radio is slow, though. Best advice I can give you is to ask to have a play if you can - user interfaces can be a very personal preference - you might find it fiddly for example. |

There is a LOT of awkward scrolling to get stored phone numbers on the non-nav cars. The voice control is also much less effective.
I would try it out before buying. |

Thanks for all your replies.
Shadow - All good then, its just a matter of learning the system? Any other pro's or cons, without the idrive?? Residual values doesn't really matter to me, as I will be keeping it for a while, as the 911 will be my fun car!

pre-LCI so engine not as sweet, but also won't have some of the current LCI cost cuts
Its at a good price and hardly run in the FSH only means that it hasn't even been serviced yet!! |

I know all of this, hence why I never asked, and the question is idrive/nav/phone related

No nav isn't an issue, the car will be worth a bit less at resale time but you are buying it cheap so thats ok. As regards working the phone its fine especially if the numbers are in your last 8 its very easy to access.

Would defo like the LCI, but the more I hear about LCI cost cutting, handling concern and cant self update Nav would wait until the kinks are ironed out.

Never had a problem with mine. iPOD/phone etc is easy. Bough mine new and couldn't justify the cost of the NAv. HAve a £100 TOMTOM in the glovebox for the odd occaision I need to use it.

I do the same as you regarding plugging in my Ipod under the armrest. Can you get the track names transfered to the display on the CD Player? If so how do you do that? I may have misunderstood you post so apologies if I have! Cheers. |

The prof nav system is so amazing that I would not consider getting a BM without it. When spending so much on a car why compromise? Esp when as you say, youre intention is to keep for a while.
Every revamp of sat nav has been better the the outgoing but they are all amazing all the same. I use mine all the time esp the google send function. The way it sync's with phone and access of phonebook via idrive etc is breathtaking. Personally not having it would be a bitter pill to swallow |

That car is really cheap The trade price cant be much lower than that surely for that age, spec and mileage? It has pretty much every other option apart from Professional Nav.
If you use your phone a lot while driving and want to have it connected via bluetooth then getting one with idrive would make more sense. Plus a 335d is even better |
