Samsung 6 series.
Had a 42 inc 6 series lcd first. Fantastic picture, sold this to my father in law and bought another one 6 series but 50inches lcd again. I prefer the sharpness when compared to plasma. The picture quality with bluray and sky hd has to be seen to be believed. |

I ordered my TV from them, which was shown as 'in stock'. 2 days later the price was £90 less. When I called them I found out that they did not have a stock TV for me, but there was a delivery due in 2 days. They refunded me the £90 and I got the TV within a week. Great prices, unless you need it in a hurry. |

Another 50" Panasonic plasma lover here.....have also got a couple of Toshiba LCD's and they are great for the money.
Top tip though is once you have found the one you want, at the best price, providing that best price is at a retail outlet (ie not a web only store) then John Lewis will price match, and give you free delivery and 5 year guarantee on top. Richer Sounds are usually good for price-matching. If you want information on the panel you fancy go to www.avforums.com As for buying after Christmas don't expect prices to be dramatically different, and choice may be restricted. Retailers have reduced their stocks dramatically in the last 12 months. Finally, dont get trapped in the circle of searching for the best spec for the best price because you will always find something better....and never actually buy a panel!!! Oh and TV in the States...........I've never understood why they put up with such crap quality!!!

Just bought a Samsung Series 7 LED 40". A bit more pricey but well worth it - picture quality is outstanding (even better than the Samsung LCD, and I thought that was good) and is a lot thinner. They also are more economical and they even gave me £150 back as a green incentive!

I'll be buying one very shortly, a big flat screen that is, up to 50 inch. Which is best - Plasma or LCD? Have read this thread and its far from clear. Thanks in advance.

Just recently had a Samsung 55 LEDTV for testing. Frame refresh was 100Hz rather than the 200Hz of the smaller Samsung models.
Although whether you actually need anything above 100Hz is a moot point. I create animations and I PUT IN motion blur. Upping the frequency refresh will not remove the inherent motion blur that exists in almost all original footage. Just reduces the amout of shimmering some preceive. The Samsung 55 was fine with my testing. And after the initial shock of how big it was, it quickly became part of the furniture (depending on your other half ...). On a test piece that I rendered the colours were very "vivid" but that was using it out of the box, without tweaking any of the display enhancement options. I've been put off Plasmas since they came out as the actual picture they produced was quite frankly pish compared with an old CRT (style over substance) until only a few years ago. The new Samsungs have a quite remarkable contrast range (the LED technology really works), and a ridiculously thin and cool running display. It seems that the new Philips 42PFL9664 are also getting very good reviews. I will probably succumb and get a nice big Samsung. D. Quote:

Fair point....but not strictly true... You could have got JL to price match the Richer Sounds standard price, and then got free delivery and 5 year warranty on top.

I have 42’ Pioneer plasma and the picture quality (especially in HD) is quite amazing.
As someone has mentioned Pioneer has now left this market as they could not compete with the cheaper models from other outfits. But if you speak to any electrical retailer who knows their stuff (not currys, comet etc) even if they don’t stock Pioneer they will tell you that they are head and shoulders above anything else. |
