Gents,
I collided with a large pothole on Wednesday. The impact was so large and so violent that my radar detector flew off the windshield, breaking the termination for the power wire, in the process. As a result, one of my wheels is completely destroyed, the tire is damaged and, the strut on that side of the car is bent. Ideally, I'd have the entire suspension on that side of the care replaced but, I'm not sure my insurance company will approve such an expensive repair. So, considering what I've just told you, can you guys recommend which parts I should push to have replaced first?

I was thinking:

Thorough strut tower examination, to look for fractures.
Control arm
Bearing
Hub
Spring

In that order.


What do you guys think?

Insurance should pay whatever mechanic finds broken. Bring car to shop and then send invoice to insurance.

Its strange, but I had a dream last night that I hit a pothole in my e92 and completely destroyed 2 wheels and tires......I don't even have e92 anymore

Yeah, the adjuster is looking at the car now. I'm more concerned with him not catching parts that are not visibly damaged but, are very sightly out ofs spec.

My boss hit a pothole in his E93 328 this past Monday. Broke the wheel bearing, shock, and shock mount. Total repairs $2,200.00 :/

The adjuster can't determine what is wrong just by looking at it. Refuse to accept anything from the insurance until you've had a BMW Service Center inspect the car for damages!

So, the total so far is $1700, for a new wheel and new shock. However, that quote does not include BMW retail prices AND, the techs at the repair place have yet to take the damaged parts off the car. I'm going to be surprised if they don't come back with some more damaged parts.

I spoke to the adjuster and the SA about this and, he said that when the techs take the car apart, the techs will look at the car and inform the adjuster if anything else is broken. The insurance company will then change the quote accordingly.

You need to relax.........This is Standard procedure. It will be as good as new. Some guys up here have been successful at getting reimbursed by the city for damage like this as the expectation is that the roads are in driveable condition. I had 2 flats and 1 BBS destroyed and city told me to beat it.

No worries, man. They'll fix it all. If anything else comes up during the service, they'll have the adjuster come back out and he'll make a claim adjustment. They wont put you back on the road with stuff still broken b/c that could potentially be a bad lawsuit...

The radar detector is ok. The terminal on the power wire will need to be cut of and a new one will have to be installed.

if it turns out to be just a wheel and shock i would not put in a claim with your insurance, fairly cheap.

i would assume other parts are damaged as well for sure though then its worth it.

Had a similiar event with my previous car (audi a4 lowered). Blew the tire, bent rim, blown shock. You should be fine with replacing these and no need to get the insurance company involved as was previously mentioned.

Concerned is a natural feeling. Been there...done that.

What everyone on here said is right. Once the BMW tech looks at it...that quote will change a ton and new shit will be added on...shit that can't be seen until parts are removed.

Don't know what insurance you have but make sure they don't try to send you to their body shop to get work done. Stand your ground and have BMW take care of everything.

They might try to send you to their shop and put replacement parts on your car and shit. Don't let them finger you around. Stay firm and have BMW take care of you.
