JB3 Weird problem last night..

Hey guys. I have been running the JB3 on map 6 for about 1500 miles now (maybe more). Last night I decided to have some fun (closed course) and had it up to around 120 in 4th gear at full throttle. I let off the gas and gradually started losing speed. Somewhere between 105-110 the "half full" check engine light appeared. So I came to a stop, shut the car off, let it sit for 5 minutes and started it again...Light came right on again. I managed to lug it around in limp mode to a safe spot and let it sit for 20 minutes this time. Car started up with no light and ran fine...until later. 2nd gear at 40mph floored it...felt like stock speed. Repeated the step again right after and was instantly pressed back into the seat like it should be (happened twice last night). Sorry for the long thread but does anyoen have an idea of what may have caused this??

Probably should include these

2007 e92 335i
BMS DCI
JB3 1.4 Map 6

everything else is stock.

Buy a bt-cable and check for codes....Otherwise its impossible to know what problems you have with your car....my 2 cents

Do you have Gen1 board or Gen2? A Gen1 board can cause this.

Money is tight so no cable...I asked if anyone had ideas as to what it could be, but thank you for your suggestion

Scan with BT and email the codes to me or BMS for assistance.

try map 4 and see if the problem goes away....maybe map 6 is to strong for your mods....

its possible it could be you hpfp or sparkplugs as well....any long cranks or misfires? When was the last time you changed your sparks?

The car has 29,000 miles, so sparks were never done I don't think. No long cranks or noticeable misfires either.

The person whom I ordered this from told me that map 6 was fine with my modifications.

Interested to find out what the BT scan shows.
FWIW my car runs better on 7 than 6. The lag-fix algorithms on the odd# maps work better for me.

Map 6/7 are not normally recommended for just intake, even though some people run that way, so you would be better off running map 2/3 or map 4/5. Map 6/7 is meant for modded cars (DPs, FMIC, exhaust, etc.)

I always tell people they can run those maps on 93 but a code may pop up and that is the reason to have a BT tool. Those are aggressive maps and no vendor should be telling people they will be 100% fine on those maps even with supporting mods. There is always a possibility of a code on an aggressive tune.

I was just about to mention that he's prob on 93.
When you talk about codes, that's assuming he's had a program update since delivery, right? ('07 build 335)
Pre 29.2 won't throw specific 'tuner codes' as it allows wider tolerances in a/f & boost correct?

From what I understand all tunes post 29.2 are more sensitive.

You mean the (BMW) ecu program versions are more sensitive, right?
For the benefit of the OP... the tunes are basically the same, but have been adjusted over time to operate within the "limits" of the bmw programs without triggering codes that show 'manipulation' to boost or air/fuel.

yes the BMW one. I know Terry had to make changes to the maps when the newer BMW ECu versions came out.

Exactly what I was referring to.

Hey, just noticed you guys are like 10min away from my work in Burbank. If I stop by do you have the BTpro or GT1 to do a code clear for me?

I dont have a pro only a 3 vin right now. If you are in a pinch and need warranty work let me know I have a close by dealer that I know a tech at that will help you out. He helped another local customer that had a JB2 DP's exhaust and many codes.
