A van hit me and then my CP broke :(

So I was parked in a loading/unloading zone at a school. The whole area was jam packed with different types of vehicles unloading/loading, busses, trucks, cars, etc.

So as I am about to leave I angle my car to leave your, supposed to let people merge in and go the way the road works, the guy in front of me lets someone in, I let someone in and then this huge van/bus type thing with people inside keeps trying to merge in. He should wait for the car behind me because there is NO ROOM and NOT HIS RIGHT.

Its my RIGHT of way so I am going to go and I am very late but this guy in the bus/van that keeps merging into my lane hits me from the back. I even honked at him to let him know he was close. Now I get out and see the damage, my bumper is dinged and scratched and my quarter has a dent. His big ass van/bus has NO damage and hes yelling at me saying I am idiot and stupid. His partner is saying I intentionally backed up and hit them WTF. Then the driver says should have let me come in "your pretty car won't be ruined" they were laughing like its the best day of their lives. Then he goes I just got hit.

I had to make some quick decisions because if the police were going to be called my carfax would have had a accident reported, ZERO accidents on my record and ZERO tickets don't want any of that stupid stuff on my record. Rather fix out of pocket I know many bodyshops.

On my way home I hit high boost and my CP breaks off completely. I just switched to stock. So I limp home.

What a day!!! I should honestly just buy a beater. No matter how careful I am something always happens.

wtf why didn't you get his contact info?
who cares about a carfax report when you're gonna have to pay thousands out of pocket to fix that quarter
plus, that's what diminished value is for!

These CP's are pretty unreliable, definitely a poorly timed coincidence

Is something missing from this story? Why did you not get his contact info, or report to his employee? assuming he was driving for a company.

Even with the worst of insurance companies, the smart choice here would have been to report the accident and have his/their insurance cover it. While it will show up on a carfax, and that's only assuming the shop reports it, it's really minimal damage. Body damage that has been fixed doesn't diminish the value that much and certainly would be more cost effective to take that hit then pay out of pocket. My thinking is that part of the story is missing and you did something to make this van hit you and your at fault, or you have some other serious driving record issues that are playing into this equation.

They bluffed and you lost...someone who drives like that likely has had accidents in the past, you should have picked up your balls and demanded employer's phone number, insurance info, taken pictures, etc.

Unless you're not telling us the whole story, leaving the scene with no exchange of information, and deciding to fix the damage on your own dime was a stupid move IMO.

Sorry OP about your accident but there is definitely something wrong with this story. You are either not telling us the whole story or you have made a really poor decision of not taking his contact info.
As a word of advice do not replace your old CP with a stock one because it will eventually fail as well.

Even if you know body shops, why wouldn't you get their insurance info? It's one thing to pay out of pocket for repairs, but it's another to technically leave the scene of an accident, not report the accident, then play victim when it comes to the penalties.

Even if you could get the car fixed for free (for discussions sake), you still need to handle the legal end of an accident which is to report it, that's a law state depending, not just something the insurance company asks you to do. At the very least, legality aside, why wouldn't you want THEM to pay for the repairs if you're not at fault? With no report, they can say whatever they want, and you'll be found as a non trustable source of a counter claim against theirs.

So you left a parking spot without the car on the road having yielded to you. Got it now.

I think OP was already out of the parking spot and on the road and it was the van moving. But that whole post was a mess and I don't know what's going on so maybe you're right. Either way, OP should have got that van's info.

Demand? I would have just called 911. If the guy leaves it's hit and run.

I don't get it. If he purposely hit you and is most likely a company car, I would've dialed 911 and taken as much pictures as I can. Then sue their ass for being reckless. The money you'll get back is way more than the diminished value of the car. And accidents like this doesn't even raise insurance, so I don't get why you didn't at least get contact info. This is also why I have front and rear dash cams.

In my area they don't care about traffic collisions unless someone is injured and traffic is forced to be stopped by a unmovable car.

Regardless, you get their insurance info and file a report anyway no matter how useless that report is. The idea is to get a paper trail going for the inevitable lawsuit.

You could do that...but I value my time more than spending hours at the police department trying to file a report over a dent and some scratched paint. If it came to that I would rely on my uninsured motorist coverage and go about my day.
