I'm sure when the next big intake rears its ugly head and says it will deliver 30hp and 40lbs of torque we'll be creaming our pants and putting our AFE's up for sale like so many of the BMS ones ended up being...

For now.. I must admit... the damn thing looks pretty sick sitting in the engine bay...

I think the intake market has pretty much set it mark and the only thing I can see is another vendor offering the GruppeM intake replica which they should sell it at a price much lower....I don't see RR making any significant movements with their intake system...but again thats my opinion!!

I have said this before and I was blasted. The fact remains that a cold air intake is irrelevant for all intensive purposes on an intercooled car. If you are trying to increase flow to the turbos get an intake. If you are trying to lower IATs, then get an intercooler upgrade. A cold air intake will have very little impact on power vs. traditional dual cone setup.

Watch out for "intensive purposes".

Actually there's not much traditional about dual-cone setups except maybe that they "traditionally" don't raise hp.

since they both make similar power..

to choose between BMS dual cone or AFE, it is entirely up to the buyer who wants it for the "looks" or sound or price...

My question is: Which Intake gives a louder spooling sound? BMS dual?

I've heard both over the weekend but the 1 with the BMS had a vented hood,
so the BMS had louder spooling sound but im not sure if that was mainly because of the vented hood or BMS just sounds louder like that, whereas the AFE was deeper

I don't notice any difference in sound with my aFe intake; I think some ppl might "hear" a placebo effect.

Compared w/ oem stock intake + BMC drop-in air filter; however, that may b/c I noticed the turbos spooling more when I added the BMC drop-in high-flow air filter to the oem intake.

AFE's Intakes sound really nice, i call it the "addicting" sound because on my E46 M3 right before 4k Rpms you hear it sucking the air with such a nice sound that its priceless!

I have about 1500-2000 miles on my AFE intake and the sound is WAY MORE PRONOUNCED after this amount of mileage. I also heear the turbos spooling and unspooling on short bursts.........

Maybe I just need more time with it; I have ~ 600 mi. on my aFe intake, and just put the SwoopScoops on today. One thing I noticed that I don't like though is how the front aFe cone filter (toward the front of the car) touches the hood insulation...this may reduce the effective surface area of that cone air filter at the top.

My strut barce actually prevents the filter from having any contact with the hood. You're correct in the assumption of less surface area being available to the filter(s).

Would this intake work for the na 328i? Since its an intake it shouldn't make a difference right?

It definately looks like the best for its price!! Congrats man!

How does it sound compared to the injen intake?

Oiled filters are blue ("Pro"); are you sure you have the oiled filters? Did your box come with the oil kit and white or blue filters?

Technically, you don't have to install the heat shield (the dual cone air filters do not sit on the heat shield and are not stabilized by it), but why wouldn't you?

hmm, well when i installed them with a friend i inspected every piece, when i looked inside the filter, i saw a thin pool of what looked like oil at the head of the filter. my filters are not blue. and yes it came with the oil kit... at least i think so.

Do you still have your aFe box? If you're not sure if you got the oil kit and you have white air filters, you have the dry version.
