E92 Tow Hook Cover on Rear Bumper Stolen?
So I'm at the LA auto show today, and come back out to my new E92 335xi to find that the little tow hook cover (not sure if this is the name) is missing. It's located on the passenger side rear bumper just above the exhaust pipe. Behind it is a long threaded hole, which I assume is for a tow truck..
So my car is Space Gray. Can I just order a replacement from a dealer that comes painted? Or will I have to go through a body shop and have them spray this 1.5" part..? Anyone else have this happen? I can't imagine that it just popped off on its own.. |

I lost my front one and I couldn't tell if someone took it or it dropped because of vibration or too much bass
I got a new one painted by Longtran. Just send him a PM if you don't want to get ripped off at the dealership. By the way the rear toweye flap for 335 coupe part number is 51127161497. It should be the same for 335xi. |

Why buy a new one when you can take advantage of the warranty and get it covered for free? Just make sure to tell your SA that it fell off and the warranty should cover it.

The tow cover comes off pretty easy so I cut a 4"-6" piece of 550 chord (parachute chord) and super glue one end to the inside of the tow hook cover and one end inside the bumper. If it ever gets loose, it'll hang vice losing it all together. It's a technique.

Though I doubt that's the real story. Probably fell off.

There have been a lot of threads on here about this. I lost mine too. The dealer gave me a replacement that he swiped off a demo in the same color. I put a few dabs of clear silicone adhesive (aquarium type) on each tab when I put it on. Now it doesn't come off by itself, but can be removed if necessary with no damage. |

Anyway, my cover was stolen yesterday. I'm one of those losers that admires their own car when getting out and walking away from it and I'm positive the cover was there when I left and then gone when I returned. Really grinds my gears. |

Another way would be to semi-permanently glue it in place.
Enough so that it can not quickly and easily be popped out in a car park etc, but so that it can also be relatively easy removed if needed. For example. Use some flexible marine silicone or similar. Like the stuff they use on fish tanks to seal the glass. It sticks like a bitch and will keep it in place and stop some sneaky MF taking it. But in an emergency when it needs to come off, with a bit of a tug it'll be off. Just an idea.

Mine fell off about a month ago, the first day it got truly cold up here.
Called my dealer, they ordered it, had their body shop paint it and put it on all under warranty - no questions asked! From the sounds of the other replies we're not alone so it really shouldn't be a surprise to the dealer or BMW that it simply fell off - even if you hit a bump, had the bass cranked... they shouldn't fall off that easy. |

i believe someone stole my one when the car was in Manhattan parked. The cost was like 75 painted for a new one. I ended up getting a hook up from a auto body shop and they got it for me while they fixed my car after someone keyed it =(

My Space Grey E92 lost its tow hook cover last week too. Is there someone(s) out there collecting them in Space Grey only? |
