To tape or to not to tape..
I'm going on a Euro drive this weekend and was thinking about taping my car up as if I were tracking (painters tape) to prevent further rock chips, I already have a lot on the car, any more would drive me crazy... So, what do you guys recommend? just the general 3m brand? Any tips?

Don't tape IMO. You're going to get rock chips... it's a car and it drives on the road. It'll look more ridiculous on the street with this blue tape than a few more rock chips. If it bothers you that much then just have it resprayed in a few years.

the only tape i use on my car is 3M 'painter's tape' it is blue in color, feels like paper and specifically says on the label that it is easy to remove. it does not leave any residue
don't use masking tape and especially not duct tape!!! IMHO, you have to accept the car will get (very) minor cosmetic damage. think about what is 'reasonable' (like parking in a far spot, or not tail gating semi trucks) and then accept that other stuff will happen. when i go to DEs i tape up the head lights, fog lights, license plate and put my numbers on and go for it |

What the difference from going on a "Euro Drive" then a regular drive? Either situation you are still just driving your car on the street with other cars. So unless you are paranoid 24/7 and tape your car even when you are driving just daily i really dont see a point. Nothing wrong with caring about your paint i mean i tape up during track days. But if you cant even drive your car on the street without worrying about taping up your front end, you should just cough up the money for a clear bra.
And to answer your other question, no you cant just use any 3m brand tape. You will most likely want painters tape or automotive tape. |

Don't tape for the street. It's going to look funny. If you're on the track then go for it. Chips happen - you can't do anything about it.

Rofl, you guys are talking like I don't know which painters tape it is.. Well, I'll tell you why its different then my normal everyday commute, the roads are rocky and up in the mountains, which will cause 3X more rock chips, but I've decided to not tape it since, I am going to repaint it anyways soon.

I know i taped up mine when i went up to the snow... and i dont regret it one bit...
only when i was taking it off did i realize how much crud was on the road , especially with the snow /// although i had to clay the hood since when the car would get a little dust on it the tape marks would be visible
