What tire & size would you recommend for track/autox...
I just placed an order for 18x8.5 +32 and 18x9.5 +35 Advan RS wheels...
I am thinking of going with the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star spec... They are pretty close to the Bridgestone Re01R but much cheaper $$... I am probably going to attend 2-3 circuit track days, 4-5 autox days, and a few 1/4 drag nights... I know I should go for a square setup but I've ordered staggered already... What size would you track/autox guys recommend? I was thinking of 235/40/18 and 265/40/18 or even 225/40/18 and 255/40/18 for a minor stretch... My car will have 0 finger gap on kw V2...

I ran 265 all the way around on my e46 M3 - it was awesome. on the AX very little Understeer and lots of throttle steer.

FWIW, im running staggered 18's with 235/40/18 265/35/18 on Kumho Ecsta MX.
I've heard great things about the Star Specs and my friend that ran them thought they were pretty good. Only major problem was that the tires chunk a lot. |

You can go with 235/265 or 235/275 with those tires. They'll both fit no problem.
I'm going with 245/265 with Goodyear F1 Asym. I would have gone with 245/275, but Pirelli and Michelin are the only one's that make an Ultra high performance tire in those sizes and they are $$$$$! Probably the only reason I'm not going with the Star Spec is I don't know how they are in the rain. I know the F1 Asym are really good.

check the diameters of 235/40/18 and 265/40/18 compared to stock
if they are different diameters your DSC could think that the wheels are slipping (even when they are not) due to differences in the rotation speed. i don't know the DSC tolerance for rotation speed difference before it activates, but this is something you should look into for moving to a non standard size |

off topic, but in response to your post.. personally, i don't find the TC to be intrusive at all. it allows a reasonable amount of yaw angle and an aggressive yaw rate, and prevents you from uselessly spinning 1 tire if you get too aggressive with the throttle during corner exit. i've driven the car at HPDE with the electronics in either DSC or DTC mode and i haven't experienced the electronics preventing me from rotating the car or using the traction limit as i please. i personally find it to be a nice safety net to have in place. i suppose a driver who really likes to pitch the car into corners aggressively with lots of throttle and big counter steer would benefit from having the electronics off, but for someone who is working on line and general car control TC off may not be needed EDIT yes 255 width all around will fit depending on your wheels' offset and whether you are lowered. you can test this for yourself by putting one of your stock rear wheels onto the front |
