it is a fad so people are going to like it, if you are putting carbon fiber parts on your car for appearance what is the difference if its real or a film. its just common sense.

If you are in warranty or CPO or extended maintanence, leave them alone. I work for a BMW dealer and caliper failures are not that uncommon. Anything associated with your brakes will have a null/void warranty if you bring them in painted. Excessive heat is a VERY BROAD and vague diagnosis for just about anything in the braking system. That being said, when I was younger I painted my calipers for the color contrast and tracked the car with no brake issues at all (besides the paint fading). My current beater Lexus has painted red Supra Turbo calipers on it that the PO installed 50,000 miles ago and I've never had any problems. I wouldn't do it to my BMW though. |

The worst thing about DIY painted calipers is that most of the ones I've seen tend to come out looking pretty tacky. The surface is so rough and the paint is so uneven, you can tell from a mile away that the guy did it at home in 5mins. I guess you really need to sand down the surface and prime it (or whatever the professionals do) before applying the paint.
At the end of the day, it's not about the color, but the quality. Last edited by samchoi604; 12-13-2010 at 12:31 AM.. |

the way i see it is yu are only a poser if you hype something up to what its not.
example. buying varstoenn te37 reps and then putting the rays stickers on it. its completely cool if you dont sticker it up but if you do and someone asks you are those te37's what are you gonna say? same thing goes for all this carbon stuff. Bob: "Is that a carbon fiber roof?" Dan: "uhhh no... its vinyl" Bob: "oh... i guess thats cool..." just ask yourself if a critic were to ask you about what you have done to your car would you be proud? |
