He was a phenomenon, he changed pitching and he is why much more people throw 100 now.

Talk about greatest "pitcher"(as in ability to pitch and throw strikes) I would have to say Greg Maddux.

Lots of great pitchers that were great for other reasons.
agreed - like naming the best basketball player, best football player or even best baseball player ever to live.

no real answer.

but i DID and DO idolize Nolan Ryan because he was a part of our community growing up.

p.s.
no Tom Sever or Bob Gibson or Warren Spahn or Walter Johnson !?!?

Gibson was freakish.

as far as anyone even coming close to Ryan's intimidation factor, Gibson would come the closest.

Randy Johnson also.

Gibson had the most confidence of any pitcher I have ever watched, he used to look at players after they got a hit and say "You just a hit off of Bob Gibson."

Rest you mentioned were all great pitchers, you missed Clemens though

that's a whole different argument.

Clemens grew up watching and training with Nolan.

but somewhere @ 1996 he stopped being good.

his ongoing trial seems to be getting in the way of me even mentioning his name.

They inspected the stadium, it was in code. The team is setting up a memorial fund for the family, and Hamilton said he will reach out to the family when the time is right.

They will wear black ribbons tonight, flags at half mast, and have a moment of silence.

Hamilton said the hardest thing was hearing the little boy screaming for his father after he fell.

thank you sir, hope in your way to law school learn a thing or two in being polite.. i guess your keyboard and screen provides you the safety you need to call somebody an idiot.

now about my comment, every single thing i read in threads about something happening to somebody its followed by a law suit. does it always have to be someones fault other than the one that got hurt? the guy reached for the ball and fell. it was an accident.. a tragic one but it was an accident. an accident that the guy that died caused by himself!

this reminds me of an old thread about five guys that died in a car crash in an M5. and the family had something like 4 law suits.. they even sued the guy that the kids broke into his property and had the crash!!

i'm sorry if my comments go against the mentality of the U.S citizens, we may just think different.

The railing height was already raised to 46 inches in 1994 after a previous incident at the Park.

By looking at the railing height compared to the people around it, I say it's at least 6 inches short of the minimum requirement.

A lawsuit is definitely in order.

then everyone must be a giant. The railing is below the waist line. 4 feet should be at the belly level for an average height person.

^I just read the article on Yahoo about that. The guy last night was an idiot, he was standing on a table that was just as high as the railing...

Seeing this picture wouldn't make me feel bad if he fell.

Lets see - barefoot, standing on painted steel, near what appears to be some liquid that might have spilled and also another object that could have hampered sound footing. Do these people not even consider what could go wrong?

I'm guessing he had a subarachnoid hemorrhage. With that kind of a lesion, you can initially be conscious, and then as pressure develops on the brain and the brainstem, can slip into a coma and die.

PS- this story is really sad. The video made it appear that it was just a freak accident.

yup. some motorcycle riders feel fine after getting banged up in an accident and die hours later due to internal swelling and bleeding from the brain.
