Took off my summers...
and put on my winters this past weekend.
I knew this would be my last summer for the stock tires on my car (RE050A RFTs) so over the last 2-3 weeks I've been having fun when I get stopped at a stop light or come up to an open corner for a little sideways drift (much to the embarrassment of my wife ). Little did I know how tough cold weather, negative camber and excessive acceleration are on summer tires - check out the chunking and disintegration of the tires. Ouch. -Rich |

Sick!!! Looks like a lot of fun. If I didn't know better I'd figure those were Craig's.

Every time I do it, it makes me fall in love with the car all over again After a long day it is very theraputic too.
Oddly, I can actually get my car to lay down two stripes from a stoplight with DSC/DTC off even though I don't have a LSD (it will also fish tail slightly which tells me both tires are spinning). But the driver's side stripe is always longer and more pronounced than the passenger's side and the pictures above are of the driver's side tire (it was definitely worse off compared to the passenger side). -Rich |

BTW - my wife just rolled her eyes at me when I showed her the tires. My 4yo son and 2yo daughter thought it was awesome (when they get in my car the first words out of their mouths are usually "go fast!"). They've got gasoline in their veins like their daddy

Well I *think* the 2008+ E9x 335i's had an E-LSD that stays active even when all traction control turned off. Uses the DTC to detect wheel slip and ABS to activate one brake or the other slightly to transfer torque.

Its this. Not sure when they came out with it in the E9x, but I remember it being somewhere around the time the 1 series went on sale here, which was in '08. |

Yeah, I have no clue what that temp sensor is, I haven't ever seen it either. I wonder if its a temp sensor on the fluid maybe?

My snow's were going on today but its too cold and rainy right now and I have to back the car out of my small garage, so I will wait until next weekend. The forcast this week looks pretty good, and since I have the Conti DWS on there, I can get by in a few inches of snow pretty easy.
That said....man I hate winter!!!!!! If you dont ski, then you understand

Not sure my winters would have helped but I looped the car around after hitting some black ice/freezing rain this way a little bit ago, on a sharp but wide corner that I always cut near my house, it was pretty fun though. DSC wasnt even off, had it been, I thnk I save it better. Car is fine, just didnt realize it was freezing rain that bad....all snow now though.
Now that I have to leave againg, its a DTC one click and time to have some fun since I know the roads are somewhat slick!

I used to have an older m3, and I loved to whip the rear end around on turns all the time. Now that I have a 335xi, I can still take turns really fast, but the rear tires obviously don't slid out as much. Needless to way, I have burned through a lot of rear tires on the m3. Having an AWD car will keep me from going through tires quickly.
