So I know this might be a dumb question but I swear today's search engines are getting horrible. I am trying to figure out how to interpret torque specs printed on bolts or covers. Valve cover in my case. so the vavle cover has specs as follows 8,6+- 0,6 Nm. I'm just trying to learn how to read that and the two numbers are a bit confusing to me. why is there an 8,then 6 and then 0,6. most of the examples I am finding online are 25 +-10 which seems easy , basically 25 Nm give or take 10 Nm, but the one I am trying to read has more numbers and that is where I am getting confused.

8,6 +- 0,6 Nm how to interpret that?

Where are you reading these values? In Europe, they use a decimal comma.

E.g.: 8,6 means 8.6

so what does 0,6 mean? 8.6 +- .6? so anywhere from 8 to 9.2?

8.6 Newton-Meters, Plus or Minus 0.6 Newton-Meters; or
8.0 Nm to 9.2 Nm (ANYWHERE in that range).
As lordnikon states, in "Euro-parlance", a comma is use as a decimal, so 8,6 means 8.6 Nm, and +/- ,6 means plus/minus .6 Nm

ISTA just states "9 Nm" Torque for all VC bolts. That's 6.6 Ft-Lb, or 79.7 INCH-POUNDS.

I just picked up a Tekton inch pound wrench to do the crankshaft position sensor bolt and will be using it for any further low value torque fasteners on this car.

Kind of a low value to hear the click on a ft-lb wrench but not 72in-lbs. You'll hear that click without a doubt.
