k&n drop in voids warranty
just spoke to my local dealer ship and was surpsied when he told me a k&n drop in filter would void the warranty. i know k&n is big on there promises and it just doesnt make sense for it to void a warranty. you think the guy just didnt know what he was talking about or is it the truth?

everything that you change on the car can pretty much void the warranty lol...thats if the dealer finds out lol
ull be safe with just the drop in filter but if your dealer is being a bitch about it just take it off and put the stock on on when u go in for check ups only takes minutes |

Your dealership is full of shit. I've taken 3 bmw over the last 11 years to two different dealerships and not one ever said anything about my k&n cold air intake.

If any aftermarket accessory is installed and something in that system fails, it is not covered by warranty...
If your air mass meter fails, not warranty(they fail from over oiling the filter usually). If they want to go extreme and say your motor fails and say its due to a K&N, they could say that too... |

who ever gave you that info is wrong ~!
only voids if it was proven to be the cause of the failure you dont have to take my word for it =X but it will be pretty stupid for them to void it when u bringing the car in for a mal. on the taillights. |

No he's right to a point. The filter could void warranty for any sensor that's behind the filter (oil build up). Just as putting large heavy wheels on a car will void suspension/brake warranties. It's all about common sense. |

The correct terminology is the dealer can "deny a warranty claim" for a sensor found to be impaired by a non-oem filter.

I learned this by braille on my last car (2K1 maxima) and damn was it freaking costly to get the MAF sensor replaced. Are the n54's susceptible to this?? I've been very leery of oiled filters ever since. |
