If anyone's interested.. Here's a little comparison I did this afternoon with the 1080 CF vinyl versus real carbon fibre.

I've been involved with manufacturing carbon fibre pieces (real ones, lol) for a number of years, and this is by far the best example of a 'fake' carbon look for the price. The 1080 really stands out above all other vinyl's I've seen, even the Di-noc (which i have in stock as well).

Take a look!

That's a twill (2x2) 5 oz weave with an epoxy resin/clear coat versus the 3M 1080.. Not bad eh.. Just in certain lights, you can see that there's no clear on the vinyl, but that's not something you can avoid I guess lol.

Is that the matte or gloss scotchprint?

Thanks for the comparison pics.

It's more or less 'gloss'. 3M Doesn't have a specific description of their product anymore, as their 'matte' is regarded primarily as their di-noc lineup now, yet not really automotive user friendly... As you can see from the photo, it does absorb a deal of light and so there is a matte characteristic to it as well, but like i said, more or less gloss..

Nice. I should ordering mine from amazon next.

I wonder though, most pics of wrapped interiors I've seen seem to have the angle going to the left. However, the M3 with its real CF has the angle going to the right. So I will match the M3 and go to the right when I do mine. Can't wait.

For this reason, the 3M vinyls look nothing like real CF, at least not in the way any of us are used to seeing it used. I have both 3M DiNoc and 1080 carbon fiber vinyls, and while they look nice, they don't look like the real deal. So if you like the style as a decorative accent, go for it, but if you want it to look like the real deal, don't bother.
truth.

It is also my understanding that 3M created the 1080 for exterior use and the DiNoc for interior use.
That's what I read on Bimmian's site also:
