Godzilla or King Kong?

Between a new 08' Z06 and a new 08' GT-R priced near equal which would you personally choose?

There are discounts on the Z06 bringing it to about 75K and a few new GT-R's are out there for sticker of around 78K. Using apples to apples regarding cost for this post.

Without pooping all over one or the other or comparing "I would rather have" cars, which would you spend your money on?

My take.

Z06:
Better looking.
Beat the hell out of it tough.
Decent MPG.
Sound.
6-speed.

A bit dated to some.
Some questionable materials. Personally the front fascia/hood scoop plastic mesh is horrid. Petty but...
Value retention. Toss out the window from the used 07'-08' numbers I see.
No factory Blue-tooth on 08's.

GT-R:
Unique/Crowd magnet...could get old.
Amazing technology.
Value retention. Real numbers yet to be seen.
A bit more livable as DD.

Some angles are hot and some or not.
Long term reliability?
Wide...that rascal is kind of big.

I look at the Machine silver Z06 I have been drooling over. Then I walk right next door to their Nissan store. I look at the silver GT-R they have moved from the showroom to under the cover outside. I know looks are subjective and a portion of our fascination with automobiles but the GT-R just does not give me that little "Oh yeah" when I look at it. Z06 gets a slight lead.

There. I feel better.

King Kong would win if they're fighting up close. But Godzilla has the reach (able to shoot fire out of it's mouth) and would win if they're fighting from a distance.

You can't loose with either one. Do you want Cubic Inches or do you want Twin Turbos and AWD. That ZO6 is Uber Sexy

tough choice. the Z06 has a slight more appealing exterior. but id rather be in a GTR interior than a vettes. but the GTR has tranny issues. im going to go with the Z06!

I would go with the GT-R.
Easier to drive fast, safer due to AWD and you can drive it 365 days a year.

z06 is probably a better daily driver, the only reference i have is motor trend - in their COTY publication they noted the harshness in the GTR's ride. Depends on what you are looking for. I'd say GTR offers better handling although I'm not sure about power.

+1, I've found them for right around 60k brand new!!!! Now is the time to snatch them up!

Z06 wins all day long in my book, especially at that price!!!

power to weight ratio goes to the Z06 all day long. Weight is everything, and the GTR is a pig for a car thats performance oriented.

Godzilla is a beast but has a very harsh ride, even in Comfort mode. The GTR transmission is great for daily driving (never mind the issues about breakage if you launch too hard/too often). Other than the stiff ride it's totally civilized. The Vette is also very civilized and isn't quite as punishing over rough roads, but the clutch can wear you out in traffic. The Vette gets much better gas mileage, if you care about that. Tall 6th gear FTW.

I think you should drive them both, they are radically different cars and your preference will probably make itself clear after you've experienced the differences between them.

As far as price goes, Z06 is the winner hands down. You can get an 08 for around $59k with the base options. Loaded out closer to $70k.

Be aware that with the GTR you are signing up for some very big maintenance bills. There is no free service (other than the very first post break-in service) and some of the costs are steep. A replacement set of pads and rotors will run you $6,000. I repeat, $6,000. Even an oil change will be a couple of hundred bucks or more because it requires removing the undertray.

I went off the "Red Tag" on the dash and no bartering. List is 82K and some change. 3LZ package sure makes the interior nicer. Is 60K below invoice on a non 3LZ car?

I am a little concerned the GT-R will encounter some problems down the road. If it rides rougher than a Z06 that will be a deal killer.

i'm sure 60k is below invoice and yes I too would be concerned about the GTR down the road, new ones are having issues so why wouldnt more have issues as the mileage goes up?

I do not mind shifting at all. Rough roads are common in Texas in most every area I have traveled so ride quality is an issue. I already have a car that beats me up.

I will see what their attitude is about re: a GT-R test drive. If the thing hops all over the road it will drop fast. That skipping feeling is not what I need.

Save some money and get the King Kong Gone Wild (ZR1) or Godzilla on Steriods (Spec V)

The GTR is amazing, but the ZR1 is better in every aspect except for interior treatment and stability control management. I do have to say I like the look of the GTR more, but the ZR1 is pretty much equally as appealing to my eyes.

I'd rather have a 6mt with 600hp+ in a lightweight sports car than a DCT-equipped AWD beast. There's plenty more fun to be had with the ZR1. I've read/watched several reviews saying that the GTR is built for speed, not excitement. AWD is efficient, but it's just not as fun.

Also, in multiple comparisons between the ZR1 and GTR, most editors claim that the ZR1 is the better DD. The magnetically-adjustable suspension seems to cope with real-world roads much better. I heard the GTR is still stiff, no matter the suspension settings.

zO6 hands down. It's ten times more reliable, less expensive to maintain and ultimately the meaner machine performance wise and in the looks department.
